DomeCar is a discussion group dedicated to commentary, debate and criticism of rail art, journalism, and literature. It's a place where thoughtful, passionate rail enthusiasts can discuss how railroading inspires photography, the written word, and other artistic formats. It's also an informal sounding board for creators of those works to discuss past, present and future projects. Climb on as we discuss the following topics, among others:
1) The art & craft of rail photography (particularly published photos);
2) The craft of video productions (such as Pentrex or Green Frog videos on North American RRs);
3) Broadcast media such as the PBS TV show "Tracks Ahead" or news reporting;
4) Articles in "Trains", "Railfan & Railroad," and other magazines dedicated to RR news, stories and features;
5) Books, both non-fiction & fiction;
6) Internet sites, groups, news, and forums of any general rail subject;
7) News media coverage of railroads in "mainstream" media, such as TV news, papers, etc.
This is NOT a place to post your daily locomotive/train sightings, the best places to railfan, gripes about railroad management, the details of model railroading, or how many SD40-2s can change a light bulb (three, by the way). We do allow some flexibility, however, such as asking for suggestions prior to a rail/road trip, but it should be used with discretion.
Above all, we feel this is a community that values the passion we carry for our hobby, and ALL its forms of creative expression. Honest opinions, constructive criticism, and a sense of humor are highly encouraged. However, we won't tolerate personal attacks and threads that take us far from our stated mission.
We welcome your contributions, although you're equally welcome to just ride along and enjoy the debate and discussion. We strive to maintain a high degree of intellect and thought, but we're also here to have fun. Have a seat, pull up your feet, crack open your favorite beverage, and enjoy the ride and great views!
