A liberal is someone who feels a great debt to his fellow man, which
debt he proposes to pay off with your money. G. Gordon Liddy

WEEK IN REVIEW :

We finished the month of May sharply higher... The major averages
began the holiday shortened week on a down note. Widespread profit-
taking, a jump in the price of oil, and mixed economic data,
overshadowed plummeting bond yields and closed virtually every
sector in negative territory.
On Wednesday ,the Oil market was was still moving up (+ 4.5%). You
wouldn't know it by looking at the open of the NYSE, prices went
straight up. We were hearing that the strength in the equity markets
was due to the fact that now the bond market was no longer pricing
in a rate hike for Sept, and was pricing in reduced expectations for
an Aug rate hike. This was a result of the morning's weaker than
expected ISM Index data and Dallas Fed's Fisher comments that
tightening is near its end.
Thursday's market struggled to find much direction throughout most
of the session, as mixed economic data prompted investors to
consolidate some gains following yesterday's rally that lifted all
the major indices to their best levels since March... A late-day
pullback (-1.8%) in oil prices improved sentiment enough to close 7
out of 10 economic sectors in positive territory... adv/decl was 2
to 1 upside ... but the Dow only closed up 3 points.

Wall Street finished the week sharply lower Friday after concerns
about the health of the economy. Investors didn't like that job
growth had slowed to a crawl in May, and new hiring registered the
smallest gain in almost two years. Steadily climbing oil prices,
which topped $55 per barrel, also helped push the major indexes to
test weekly lows.

Another reason traders exited their positions was that Mr.Greenspan
will speak Sunday night to a China Banking panel, and this may
rattle the markets. Overseas, the European bulls aren't getting
much
inspiration either. Over in continental Europe, it didn't take too
long for another row to break out concerning monetary policy and the
euro. This time, it's a report from Germany that alleges the
government is debating whether to take a potshot at the single
European currency.

Lets see how the markets compared with the STA's stats for this
week ...From the Stock Trader's Almanac: Memorial Day Week
The Dow was Up 240 Points in 1999, up 495 in 2000, and up 249 in
2003 . For 2005 we were down 92.52 points ( -.88% )
