Subject: OSE/TCDD New night direct trains THESSALONIKI-ISTANBUL by 15/7/2005
This the announcement at OSE's Internet site:
OSE informs the passengers that until 15.07.2005 the train FILIA
(FRIENDSHIP)- TOSTLUK EXPRESS, composed of high confort air conditioned
coaches for the direct connection between Thessaloniki and Istanbul will be
put into service. The total travelling time of the trip is estimated to be
about 11 hours and 30 minutes. Until today the route Thessaloniki - Istanbul
with transshipment at the border railway station of Pithio lasted about 14
hours and 30 minutes. The passenger shall leave Thessaloniki every day at 8
o'clock in the evening and shall arrive in ease and comfort the following
morning in Istanbul / Thessaloniki, respectively. The fares for the trip
from Thessaloniki to Istanbul will be reasonable, namely a 2nd class berth
in a two-berth compartment together with the ticket costs in total 48,24
euros, whereas one-berth 1st class compartment costs 84,86 euros. Besides,
on the route Thessaloniki - Istanbul, intermediary stops will be in Kilkis,
Rodopoli, Serres,Drama, Xanthi,
Komotini and Alexandroupoli.
Trains between Thessaloniki - Istanbul - Thessaloniki are being routed in
application to the Agreement between the Minister of Transports and
Communications of Greece, Mr. Michalis Liapis and his Turkish counterpart,
they symbolize the continuous improvement of the co-operation and the
constant friendship between the two peoples and it is expected that they
will contribute considerably to the economic development of both countries.
