President Anna opened the meeting at 3:30 with her asking each person
to introduce themselves along with the favorite thing we did during
our Christmas break.

New Business
• Jan Adams 383-3080 presented several job opportunities for
students receiving Financial Aid that actually pay money. Jan is the
go-to person for employment and internship opportunities on campus
and off.
• 3 members of Western's Honor Accounting Society spoke about
the benefits of being involved with them. For example, they prepare
information for you if you want to apply for an internship. They
invited us to attend their Thur night meetings, especially the one
where the FBI attends and talks about forensic accounting. A question
was asked about salaries, the President, Ryan Dales thought that
small to average firms pay $40-50,000 dollars a year, while large
companies pay $53-60,000 a year.
.       Crystal, a former WCC accounting student, and a WWU Honor
Society probie, came with them and spoke of the differences between
Whatcom and Western. Be prepared to focus!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
• Activities Fair –January 20th and 21st 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in
Syre
• Trivia Bee / Silent Auction –End of Winter Quarter
• Bowling / Networking Activity Planning –March 13
• Wheel of Fortune Competion Planning –March 13

Several people volunteered for the position of Coordinator of our
Spring Career Fair.

Hi all,

I just found the following websites that has some good tips,
tutorials, information about investing and the stock market.  It is
Investopedia:

http://www.investopedia.com/terms/a/

This will take you directly to the glossary of terms that start with
the letter "a".  You can scroll down to the bottom for the
additional letters of the alphabet.

In addition you can click on articles and simulations that might be
of help for you, as well.

It is a "for profit" site so it will also talk to you about buying
items.  Don't worry about getting involved with those.  Just use the
site as an information gathering site that can take you to other
useful sites.

Check out the Stock Market Game competitors and see how everyone is
doing.  If you haven't joined in the fun yet, you should think about
starting up right now.

Hi all,

For those in the stock market game and for those interested in
investing, I just added two new website links for Motley Fool (Kendall
Jones suggested this site) and Investopedia.  Both are great sites to
learn investing basics, read articles about the economy, check out a
glossary of terms, etc.  Check these sites out, maybe there is
something you might find to add to your stock portfolio for the game.

Hello fellow Business Club members and friends, it is that time again.
The 2009-2010 club budget is due soon and now is the time to hear from
you the club members. What activities would you like see in the
upcoming year? So now is the time for us to brain storm for ideas
about, field trips, guest conferences, events, social gathering, ect.
If you could tell me a little about yourself and what the club means to
you and your education would be wonderful! It would be nice for me to
be able to go to the budget request hearing tell them about the

Hi All,

The Business Club Meeting Date on the Yahoo calendar was inadvertantly
put in the wrong date.  The next meeting is on Feb. 13th from 3:30-4:30
in BKR 114.  Our guest speaker will be Gene Davies, International
Consultant and former border agent.

Hi all,

We started our business club meeting today at 3:30. After everybody
introduced themselves, Gene Davis, who is a retired border patrol,
talked about his work around the borders, immigration laws and
possible immigration reforms. Several students asked questions during
discussion time and the Gene Davis's speech was an incentive for
people to start thinking about their opinion on immigration issues
and work around the borders.

After our guest speaker's presentation, Anna, our president,
mentioned several upcoming topics. The Volunteer Inome Tax
Assistance, which will start on Feb 17th. Students will be assisting
students, low income people and seniors with their tax returns every
Monday and Tuesday 5:30-8:30, Wednesday from 12:00-3:00 and Friday
from 9:30-12:00 in Heiner Library.

Also our Wheel of Fortune Competition and Bowling/Networking Activity
is coming up on March 13th. We send out a sign up sheet for students
to help out with this exciting event, where which will be a lot of
fun and great networking opportunity.

Members from the communication club talked about the
their trivia bee, where we will hold a silent auction "One person's
clutter is the other person's treasure" from 6:00-8:00. The money
raised will go to the Business Club, local Literacy Council, and
local Humane Society. Please let Merrianne know, if you have items to
donate.

Ivan, Merrianne and Jan Adams will meet next week to start
planning the Spring Career Fair, which will be held at Friday, June
12th.

The business plan competition was introduced and a flyer was
handed out. Participants receive free workshop training, mentoring,
and networking opportunities, plus the chance to win business
services. Please spread the word, to anybody who might want to
participate. Submission deadline is February 27th.

Kendall, our new financial officer, talked about our budget and
students were asked to give some input and let us know what they
might want to see done in the future.

Last but not least, we took a look at our ongoing stock market game,
currently 20 member are involved and anybody can still join in.
Today's meeting was finished at 4:33pm.

Next meeting will be on February 27th. Our guest speaker will be
Peter Theisen, President of United Way of Whatcom County. We are
looking forward to seeing you there!

I don't know about the rest of you in the Virtual Stock Market Game, but I've
definitely seen a major hit.  In looking at what's out there right now it does
seem like energy stocks still are key (and with the stimulus package about to
take effect it should look even brighter in the near future).  Check the
research on some of these for a possible investment.  In reviewing some of our
other players it still looks like Amazon is a big winner.

Anyone else out there wanting to give one of their on tips.  How are you feeling
about the market these days.  Aren't we glad this is a Virtual Stock Market Game
right now.

Don't miss the opportunity of collecting some "New Treasures" for yourself at
the Business Club's "ONE PERSON'S CLUTTER IS ANOTHER PERSON'S TREASURE" Silent
Auction tomorrow, March 18th, from 6-8p in the Syre Lobby area.

All proceeds will be divided equally among the Business Club, Literacy Council,
and the Humane Society.

COME ONE, COME ALL.

AND THEN JOIN IN THE FUN BY CHEERING ON THE GROUPS AT THE COMMUNICATION CLUB'S
TRIVIA BEE.  Entrance Fee is $2 per person or $1+a canned food item for the Food
