Hi Karen!
Starting anything new can be scary, but trust me, this isn't! Jus
ttake it one step at a time. Do a google search for business liscenses
in your state...some states you can do it all online in one form. Not
that I'm recommending it, but there are quite a few interenet business
owners out there that operate without a business liscense. ANd some
states don't require you to have a liscense unitl you make a certain
amount of money each year.
I'm going to be offering an email coaching program soon, and it will
be very affordable...I know I look around at the coaching programs out
there, and good coashes charge hundreds, and even thousands of
dollars. I don't know many women just starting out the can afford
that.
Will let you all know when I have that up and ready to go.
Where are all of the rest of you? Still stuck on where to start? Let's
support each other!

Hi Guys,
Where did everyone go? I know you are out there because I see the old
posts. I am still in the process of re-reading the book. Some of it I
get really easy and some of it not so much. We are on the way to pick
up my Granddaughters right now we get to keep them for a month so I
expect slow going for a while and my target date to have this set up is
October. I know that is some time away but this summer is really
busy. I figure the summer will give me time to get all my paper work
in order. I had honestly forgot about the small things like a business
licence. I have Children in business for themselves but I guess I did
not put the internet in the same category. Now I know better. I am
really greatful for all the great information in the book. Could some
of you write and let me know where you are in terms of getting
started. I know it is a daunting process I am a little scared myself
and I used to work in an ICU. I figure if we have a dialogue on this
group we can all buck ourselves up. How about it??

And hating it! I hate going there every day. I hate not being
available for my kids. I hate the way my boss treats me like an
idiot. I hate that when my DH comes home after four weeks in camp,
I'm going to have to go to work all day.
Is that enough WHY???
I just need the guts to quit my job, and do what I really want. I
have the idea, I have some resources already picked out, I just need
to DO IT!
Has anyone quit their job to go out on their own? To do something
that's not guaranteed? To be happy?
Thanks for letting me vent!

Hi Guys,
I just got Kathy's book and am in the process of reading. I am a
retired RN and so I think that my efforts will probably be in health
care since I already have some background. I will probably be dealing
with Seniors also since I am one AND I have always had an interest in
gerontology. I guess I do have a fear of the internet. Not going on
the net but participating in the NET. The thing that bothers me the
most is finding a sight and getting interested in what the person has
to offer and then they don't post again for weeks if ever. I want to
be sure I know what I am doing and am really committed to keeping the
site going and the content updated. The prep may take some time and I
hope it does not turn into procrastination. Looking forward to
hearing from the rest of you out there. Also thanks to Kathy, I
really appreciate your willingness to help others out. I lurked with
the newsletters for a long time before I got the book we can all help
each other out.

Sounds like you have motivation! Which is 90% of the journey. Hats off to you for taking in another family...takes a real caring person to put aside their lives to help others...
Do you have a "store" on Ebay? We will be covering that in the next month, so hopefully we can find you some good guidance to get you up there! Make sure you put a link to your ebay site in your sig line in every email and message you send!
Thanks for checkin in with us...anyone else out there want to share? I KNOW you do...come on, just a little? :)

I am hearing so far that you all are having a time deciding on what type of business to start... first of all, make sure you pay attention to that part of the ebook, and also keep in mind that the ideas I have in the book are just to get you thinking in new directions. Any of you have any specific ideas you'd like to run by me? I'll try to help, but if there is a market for a service, there is a way to make money from it. Choose what you love, make sure there is a market, then just make that decision and jump in! Better to try and fail, then never try at all. Besides, if you try something that doesn't work for you, a good businesswomen finds a way it will work! That having been said, take the time to go through the process and find a marketable subject. Then, as I said, the hard part. Being courageous enough to make the leap!

Hi gals,
I was just browsing through the members list and I see there's at
least a couple of other gals on here from Canada. So many things on
the net are geared just to people in the U.S., it might be a good
opportunity for us to put our heads together and make something work
for us here. What do ya think?
Even though I'm originally from the U.S., I've lived in Canada for 10
years now and even though I recently lost my Canuck hubby, I'm still
planning on being here for a while, if not stay here. This is my home
and where I built my life with my hubby and also where my support
system is. So, I'd really like to find something that works and be
able to support myself eventually. Hope to hear from you other
Canucks.
Hugs,

I only recently joined this group. I am 56 years old recently unemployed for the first time ever in my life and I worked since I was 15! Scary! I have relocated to santa Barbara and am making so many changes in my life! This will be the FIRST time that I have ever lived ALONE, not had to take care of anyone else, been responsible for only myself! Scary again! I have 4 grown and successful children and 6 grandchildren. My mother just recently died and now I am an orphan, we all get there sooner or later. I am happily looking forward to living by myself and pursuing some of my artsy interests.
I wonder what other women do in my position? How does one develop their independance and pursue self-discovery at this age, I suppose any age? But, I also am facing the prospect of no retirement. I have no 401k's or IRA's or anything other than social security (if we get that) and I am looking for a way to live frugally and survive well on less. I know it can be done but how?
I am also interested in working from home and so far found way too many scams and no real "opportunities" out there. I am researching turning my art skillls into some pocket money as well.
I like to hear what others are doing and how they are doing it as well as links to interesting web sites and information. Not limited to just the interests that I mentioned above, but anything, you never know where an open door will lead you if you just step through it!
Thanks for reading! -deb

Hi gals,
I just joined up this evening and plan to sit down and devour
Kathy's book. I have quite a few reasons for my why but know I'm
going to have to take it slow, easy and methodical for a while. My
big why is because I lost my husband the end of Nov. ('07) and I'm
going to have to figure out a way to bring some money into the
house. I'm sure I'll have to work at least part-time until I get
things going but I want to be able to be independent, set my own
hours and not work for someone else. I was selling spices, dips,
etc. for a company here in Canada before my husband passed away but
right now, my head isn't able to fully concentrate on doing home
parties again. I don't want to discontinue selling these products
because they WONDERFUL and everyone loves them! They actually sell
themselves.
I also know this is the right thing to do and I can hear my hubby
cheering me on to take this step....he was my biggest advocate and
supporter. I'm not exactly sure what way I want to go with this but
just know it's something I really want to do. I do have some ideas
to bounce off others once the time is right...just some things that
really turn my crank but just not sure what to do with them.
Hugs,
Mary

There are so many reasons for the "why" question. For me the main
reason would be to become my own person and be financially independent.
I come from the old school where husbands turns over the whole paycheck
and wives bugdets the money. When I migrated abroad, my husband's
thinking changed so we had separate bank accounts and just contribut a
certain amount for the bills each month and since I was working then, I
had more self respect and self esteem--I could buy anything I wanted
having my own money.
Even when I got married, my own MIL advised me to have my own money
secretly to be my own person. Couldn't have loved my MIL more. She was
so independent for her era.She even told my hubby that he should be
turning over his paycheck but told me to give him at least half for
his own pride, some nights out with the boys ( though he can't drink due
to being allergic to alcohol and to buy his his own boy toys
(electronics)and cigarettes.
Since I got laid off, wanting to have my own business will enable me to
keep that sanity of being my own person.

I've known my why for years now...just haven't figured out the how! :)
I am my father's daughter...he was always trying to figure out a way
to be financially independent to be able not have to worry about where
every penny would come from and to retire and enjoy his old age. I've
added to that by wanting to give my kids what they need without making
another one go without. And especially to finance their education...
I have 5, so it will be here before I know it. And last but not least,
I am finding out that it really does cost to live healthy, especially
when you get older...I do not want to be on doctor's drugs.
My purpose this year is to really make an concerted effort to step out
of my comfort zone and take advantage of the opportunities that
present themselves to me, and to organize my time to get what needs
to be done, done.
Viv :)
Welcome all to the new Women on the Net message board.
To get us all started off right, I have a question for all to
answer...what is your purpose for the coming year? I know we all want
to start a business, but have you asked yourself why? The "why" is
the most powerful part of your business, and will propel you into
success if you hold onto it. So think about it, write it down, and
share it with the group!

Hello all,
The reason I have been interested in this information is because I too
want to earn some extra money. I work a regular daytime office job,
but would like to have some extra money for the fun things in life. I
also enjoy learning and sharing what I learn and what new information I
have come across, in the hopes it will help someone else. I am still
exploring how I want to do this, so I am looking forward to ideas and
suggestions. Right now I am thinking a free newsletter to get started.
Thanks for the information and encouragement.

All great reasons! And the fact that you already have the idea to
find a void and fill it means you are on the right path to doing
something that will not only be fulfilling, but successful!

My "why" is fairly complex, but I'm sure it's not unusual. I want to
make money. Not necessarily because we "need" more, but because I
want more to play with. I have a serious fabric and pattern addiction
to feed!
I've been a SAHM for 7 years, and it doesn't suit me very well. I
need a purpose each day, besides dishes and laundry. My kids give me
reason, but they are also growing up and needing me less and less.
Having flexibility is probably number one. I do want to be available
for when my kids need me. Also, I have several health problems, so
being able to work around them is so important. A regular 9 to 5 job
wouldn't give me that.
Lastly, I'm hoping to fill a void I've found out there in cyberspace!
Anyone else?

Welsome all to the new Women on the Net message board.
To get us all started off right, I have a question for all to
answer...what is your purpose for the coming year? I know we all want
to start a business, but have you asked yourself why? The "why" is the
most powerful part of your business, and will propel you into succuess
if you hold onto it. So think about it, write it down, and share it
with the group!
