Hi Stewart,
If you go to hyperlink
you will find all steam tours listed. The charter from Waterloo on
Sunday is shown as being cancelled due to engineering work.
Hope this helps David.
Thanks for that, a big help!!
Cheers

First weekend of two train working on the Swanage Railway in July.
Locomotives working were M7 0-4-4T no 30053 with a three coach rake
formed of MK1s SO, BCK, SO and Rebuilt Bullied 4-6-2 no
34028 'Eddystone' hauling four MK1s SO, BSK, SO, SO.
At Nordon were Class 20 diesel no D8188 still in Watermans Railways
black, Class 33 no 6552 (33034) in BR blue. MK1 RMB no 1865 now
provides refresments next to the station.
At Corfe Castle was Merchant Navy 4-6-2 no 35027 'Port Line', this
loco may be expected to leave the Swanage Railway, no further
details at present.
At Swanage were BR Standard Class 4 2-6-4T nos 80078 outside the
engine shed on the turntable having arrived back from an overhaul at
Crewe Heritage Centre and 80104 stabled in the sidings. A class 117
power car was also there recently repainted in BR lined green and
the Class 108 two - car set expected to see use on the late 'booze
cruise' trains this evening. Green Crompton no D6515 (33012) 'Stan
Symes' was in the headshunt next to out-of-ticket Unrebuilt Bullied
4-6-2 no 34072 '257 Squadron'.
A diesel day will be held on Sunday November 28th with unlimited
Crompton haulage although hopefully it will work a few trains before
then.
Does anyone know why this is happening? Is there another blockade of the
GW main line planned, or is it just a routine thing to retain route
knowledge for use in emergencies?

Although not explictity stated I did wonder whether it could be
connected with the following:
From Saturday 21 August until Saturday 28 August there will be a
reduction in train services between Reading and London when track
renewal work begins on the relief lines at Slough.
From 0115 on Saturday 28 August until 0545 on Tuesday 31 August, all the
lines will be closed at Slough. Customers travelling during the day
between Reading and London will be advised to travel via London
Waterloo. Reading Station will remain open throughout and passengers
travelling west will remain unaffected. Heathrow Express services will
continue to run as usual. Normal services will resume on Tuesday 31
August.
http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/news/newsline_story.php?item=42
And having just checked on the National Rail site, FGW are running
hourly West of England services into Waterloo (on Bank Holiday Monday
anyway)

159003 is "Templecombe", however it would have been more appropriate to have
given the name to 159013. Reason being that Templecombe is 113 miles from
Waterloo, and it was for this reason that 33113 was so named when the
station re-opened in the '80s. And, there aren't 113 class 159s...
1590 3 is the unit you saw, and the same unit that we came home on tonight.

Dear All,
from the SOUTH WEST TRAINS website:
' BIG INVESTMENT FOR SOUTHAMPTON CENTRAL STATION
As part of South West Trains' commitment to improving the
stations on its network, Southampton Central station is
undergoing a £300,000 refurbishment.
The forecourt development is a joint investment of £50,000
between South West Trains and Southampton City Council. The
forecourt will be totally redesigned allowing buses to turn easily
and will include an improved taxi drop off area.
Councillor Adrian Vinson, Leader of Southampton City Council,
said: "The Central station is one of the key gateways to the city -
and the one in most need of improvement. This project is
excellent news, and I'm glad the City Council is assisting, as it
will help to improve the initial impression which many visitors to
Southampton receive. In the longer term we all need to work
together to improve the area dramatically, but in the meantime
this is a good start and an example of the different partners in
the city working together we can be proud of."
The country-bound platform will have the pavement area
refurbished and will be completed by the end of July. This is a
joint investment between South West Trains and Network Rail
and will cost a total of £25,000.
Malcolm Page, South West Trains' Station Development
Manager, said: "South West Trains is continuing to join forces
with local authorities across the network in order to give our
passengers a safer, cleaner environment to wait for their train."
The waiting room, which is situated on the London-bound
platform, will be refurbished costing £230,000 and will now
include a new hi-tech heating system and new seating creating
a more comfortable area for our passengers to wait, whatever
the weather. This will also include a complete refurbishment of
the toilets.
The work on the station is due to be completed by the end of
August. '
I hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Peter Skuce

From the First Great Western website:
' Million Journeys on First Great Western
Train operator First Great Western says improved punctuality and renewed
customer confidence in the rail industry are among the reasons for an increase
of almost one million customer journeys on its services last year.
The new journeys means the company carried 21 million customer journeys in the
year to the end of March 2004, compared with 20 million the previous year.
In total, First Great Western customers covered a staggering 1,600,000,000 (1.6
billion) miles … equivalent to around 3333 return trips to the moon.
First Great Western runs services between London Paddington, the Cotswolds,
South Wales, the Thames Valley, Bristol and South West England.
Glenda Lamont, First Great Western Director Commercial Services commented: “A
recent Strategic Rail Authority report showed we were the most punctual
long-distance operator in the first three months of this year. More and more
people are deciding to travel with First Great Western and it’s clear from these
end-of year figures that not only are people returning to the railways, but we
are also attracting new customers, with numbers up 40 per cent since
privatisation.”
Hundreds of thousands of the extra journeys were carried out on off-peak
tickets. The number of Saver tickets bought rose by 18 per cent compared with
2002/03.
Sales of First Great Western’s best value advance purchase fare, Standard Class
Apex, also increased, taking the annual total to more than half a million
journeys.
And for the first time, the number of journeys made on First Class fares reached
a milestone of one million.
Glenda continued: “We are now carrying more customers than ever before and more
than any other long-distance train operator. Vastly increased off-peak leisure
and business travel has led to our million extra journeys. There’s no doubt that
our commitment to offering a range of fares, frequent services, excellent
customer service and better punctuality is attracting people to travel with
First Great Western.”
As well as offering great value pre-bookable fares, First Great Western is the
only long-distance operator to offer turn-up-and-go SuperSaver tickets on all
routes where it sets fares. '
I hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Peter Skuce

33112 was Templecombe, not 33113.
I think the 159s were named in some sort of order - only the first 4 are
named:
159001 City of Exeter
159002 City of Salisbury
159003 Templecombe
159004 Basingstoke and Deane

Can anyone tell me if the 31s are still doing the Friday trip to Brighton?
I want to go to Salisbury from Romsey tonight and thought about going
on the Brians return trip if they're still about.
Any help with timings if they do run would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Nick

Nick, yes the 31s are still booked to run FO.
The service you want is the 16:57 Brighton-Cardiff.
Romsey depart-18:48, Salisbury arrive-19:10.
Hope this helps.
