Hello!
At the request of Gerald, I have managed to sneak into this
interesting group.
I am Kevin Wood, a locomotive electrician with CSX in Atlanta.
I have an interest in rail history in general but generally
concentrate on the southeast. I also have an interest in CSX
predecessor lines which brings me here!
I have a photo of one of the surviving WM SD40s that we still have in
service and I wish to post the link to it:
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=35274
This is 4621 sitting in one of the ready tracks in Atlanta on a rainy
morning. I managed to get the partial reflection in the pool of
water... one of those "mood shots" I suppose. Enjoy!
I look forward to checking out the group periodically!

Lou,
I can't change subscriber email information as a group moderator.
The next time you log in to Yahoo, go to Groups and look for the section "Edit
My Membership" on the right side of the title bar at the top.
That is where you can edit and change your email preferences, including email
address.

Al,
The only way I know to get that information would be to call the Durbin and
Greenbrier Valley RR and ask John Smith when there are going to be freight
movements.
They interchange traffic from CSX at Tygart Junction. I'm not sure where their
freight customers are located, but I think I remember one of their train crew
members telling me that one is on the Dailey branch.
They also use sidings on the Dailey branch to store freight cars for CSX. That
would be one movement I'd like to see myself.
There are pictures in the Photos\FA2\WM 303 folder of freight movements.

I didn't know that was back in service. Is there any way to get a
heads up as to when they may run on it. I would only need a days
heads up to get up there. How about the Elkins Belington area stuff?
I just want freight, not the excursion train...Thanks...

The other day, when I left Gerald at the callers office in
Cumberland, the 8423 was on one of the radial tracks near the
turntable in fresh YN3 paint. Yesterday, I was going through some
slides with an engineer buddy of mine and we had the 8423 on Q138
about a month ago. I never put two and two together. I may have one
of the last shots of it in YN1 paint...When I get my new scanner in
the next week or so, I'll start posting some pics of WM related
stuff...

Is there any other information, such as location,
available?
Thanks for the post, Russ!! Hopefully, if we get enough
participation, we can assemble a large roster. Everything
that exists is a worthy candidate for preservation, wood
chip hoppers included.

Hello all Here is a recent trace on the former WM woodchip hoppers.
CSXT 434205 FORMER WM 3101 RETIRED
CSXT 434206 FORMER WM 3102 KINGSPORT, TN
CSXT 434207 FORMER WM 3103 BOSTIC, NC
Thats all for now.

I've created a simple database to house information on Survivors if
anyone would like to add information or things that should be added
to the database interms of information. Hopefully this will do what
databases are supposed to do such as sort and compile nice easy to
read lists.......
Russ,
Thank you. This is what we're looking for...current locations of Survivors. Now
what we need to do is find a way to post train movements that have WM equipment
in the consist.

Gerald, I noticed that when we split yesterday, the 8423 was sitting near the
turntable at Cumberland. We were so close...

Although it's been about eight months since I last saw it, WM
Baldwin VO660 #105 which was last used by Standard Steel, was still
at the scrap yard in Lewistown, PA. Anyone know if it's still there?
Charlie

Thanks for sharing the pic Brian. It looks good (although black with

Thanks for the opportunity to be a part of documenting some of WM's
history. I became a fan of the WM on my first visit to Hagerstown
in 1967. What a great big little railroad.

Thank you for starting this group. I see I know most of the names

Gerald,
Thanks for the invite. Looking forward to being a part of two =WM=
Groups now. I grew up in Hagerstown and lived in Chewsville for a
few years and can still remember as a kid running out to the end of
the back yard and watching the WM F Units, BL-2 and others heading
for the mountain or coming back to Hagerstown. Wish I had a few
thousand bucks to give away to get 3799 back home! I'll be praying
that she can one day.
Thanks,
Jeff

Gerald,
Thanks for the invite you posted on the WMRwy group. Great to be
part of another =WM= list. I grew up in Westminster, so the =WM= has
always been my favorite RR. I find I learn a lot from being part of
these groups.
:) Doug W.
Yeah that could be it. I was thinking more towards Elkins because of the
vegetation but I think you are right. I am not very familar with the WM Elkins
line...Al

Al,
If you consider the overpass in the background, it almost looks like the
Lurgan Sub on Williamsport Hill.
The honest answer is...I don't know.
