Ken
Thank you. Yes, I am indeed familiar with Nic's site and the immense
effort he has put into it. I was pleased to meet up with him during
a chilly November for a day touring some sites in London two years
ago and remember it well (including viewing the Cutty Sark before it
was devastated by fire).
Your suggestion that the identity of the ANGRMS Wickham may be known
is encouraging and would be very pleased to know what it is if you
can find out!

If you check Nic Doncasters website here

I understand that the number has been identified for this unit. I
remember when the unit was delivered to ANGRMS in the early 80's and
have seen a slide of it shortly after arrival.

Yes will post some shortly under album name ANGRMS (Australian Narrow Gauge Railway Museum Society) who are the owners.
I was also recently passed a photo of another car, also thought to be a Wickham recently. I'll include it as well. If its not a Wickham, happy to delete it.

From one Keith to another
Hi Keith
I was at the Lavender Line in July and photographed your Wickham
(No.6936). A very fine sight at that time. Perhaps you could tell us
who "Maisie" is, the name on the roof ends of the car?

Hello all
Ken McHugh, Brisbane Australia.
I belong to the Australian Narrow Gauge Railway Museum Society at
Woodford and their Wickham is listed on the Australia list in the file
section of this Yahoo site.
I note it is shown as 2'0?. I can confirm it is definately 2foot
gauge. I hasn't operated for at least 20 years due to a missing motor
(long lost). The frame and chassis are generall in place and
restorable.
Also, Nic Doncaster has prepared a comprehensive list of Wickhams in
Australia. Check it out at

Greetings all.
My Wife and I have spent pretty much two years at The Lavender Line
restoring Wickham Type 27A MkII PWM 3951 to something approaching or
hopefully even surpassing its former glory. It coughed into life for
the first time in nearly four years at the end of November 2007 after
spending roughly two years in an isolated siding overgrown with weeds
before being offered a new lease of life by my Wife and I who felt
sorry for it.
Pictures are in the Photos bit.
I have already noticed one correction - please delete the second Type
18 car entry under Australia, together with footnote 9.

There are many unknowns in the list and some details are probably out of date now, so if anyone can give any further information or offer corrections I am sure this would be welcomed. In particular, I believe the Australian and South African entries would benefit from updating.

There seems an interest in knowing where Wickham trollies are working.
Sabah certainly and London Docklands. The 2 Locos supplied to the
Argentine in 1929 were still working in 1979 so it is probable there
are many working in a lot of countries!
You can find products in several movies.
For Lawrence of Arabia we surplied the trollies and track for the
cameras. The DVD shows how the movie was made.
Guns of Navarone: the hoist that triggered the explosion was made by
us.
Train robbery of St Trinians . 2 27`s and a pump trolley
It may be of interest that the first pump trolley was based on a Buda
which hung in No 1 fitters for years (Assembly shop, page 77 in Wickham
of Ware)
I will try to answer any questions you might want answered.
Jim Cooper
As you say the OTP is a good starting point. It currently doesn't list Trolleys that were in service outside BR & the MOD so some additions could be made as outlined below. Also you or Vince might like to make the following amendments too.
Misc Trolleys.
ADD,
NVR1612 - the odd ball at the Nene Valley, that used to appear in this section? There is a pic on OTP.

Amend Place
68065 - Cambrian Railway Society, Nantmawr
PWM4316 - Private Site, Oxford.
DELETE
9043 DsmT - in bits at Wittersham Road
PWM3957 scrapped, some odds and ends remain.
68057 DsmT but may be restored.
68084 now a trailer.
Should Trailers where the ID is known be included???
If anyone can add or amend please advise.
I have two spreadsheets by Works # and by County of survivors, inc. DsmT Trolleys and Trailers - but NOT Target Trolleys if anyone interested.
I'm assuming everyone here is aware of the ontrackplant website which hopefully has a definitive list of surviving examples and a wealth of photos - being added to all the time.
Hi Geoff
I hope all's well with you.
You raise an interesting point. I am tidying up a list of preserved
foreign Wickham vehicles and will post a table in the Files section
shortly. Additions, amendments or other observations will be
welcomed.

Hi all
The ontrackplant website only has a definitive list of the UK examples, but
there are many in other parts of the world.
Beside the three on DamRail in South Africa, Two Type 40s, one from SAR, one
from Zimbabwe, plus a smaller one also ex SAR, there are a number of others
in SA. Then there are those hidden in long grass at Marromeu in Mozambique,
inaccessible because of poisonous snakes and mines, plus those at Beira,
also in Mozambique, protected by guards with AK 47s. I guess we'll never
know how many there are still surviving around the world!

A good idea - when I have determinded the current status of my three vehciles - for my own benefit(!!) - I shall pass the info onto the group ...
The formation of the group has encouraged me to get things 'moving' on them after some inexcusable neglect on my part, as many already know ... Best wishes to all
Oh, photos were included in the message but it appears this is a non-picture
group - shame. However, I have put two photos in the Photos section.

Our Wickham PW inspection trolley gets an annual outing down the line
at our late summer Gala. Any Wickham enthusiasts very welcome to visit
then or at any other time by arrangement to see the vehicle.

I wonder if those who own Wickham vehicles would be willing to
provide a brief update on the current status of their vehicles.
Obviously if anyone is currently looking for parts or has any
technical questions then please feel free to raise them in these
updates.
As I have started the topic, I will provide the first response:
I own Works Number 5864 which is a Type 18 Special. I bought it in
June 2007 and moved it from Laxey Sheds on the Isle of Man to the
Statfold Barn Private Railway near Tamworth.
I am currently in the process of stripping the vehicle down so that I
can remove the engine, radiator and gearboxes which will then go to
specialists for repair / overhaul.
The chassis and running gear will be addressed at Statfold and once
the chassis etc. is reunited with the engine etc. then an entirely new
body, apart from hopefully the roof, will need to be built.
Once the bodywork is complete then new electrics will be fitted, the
interior refitted and all the lights, horns etc. refitted.
Finally, the railcar will be painted probably in it's original livery
(RAF Blue) and then hopefully I will enjoy many years of running the
railcar on various lines in the UK.
I am hoping to complete the restoration in time for the railcar's
60th Birthday (18 June 2011).

As some of you will know a Management Buyout team bought D Wickham &
Co. Ltd from from its owners in April 1986.
Just over a year later in July 1987 the Management Buyout team sold
out to the BM Group plc (previously Braham Millar Group plc, later
Brunel Holdings plc and now Guinness Peat Group Plc).
Eventually the rail business was purchased by the Bruff Group who
merged it with their Bruff Rail Limited in May 1990 to form Wickham
Rail Limited which at some stage ceased trading and was finally
dissolved in November 1999.
It appears that the rail business was however sold again around this
time, as a company called Wickham Rail Cars based in Goodyear,
Arizona, USA began trading (www.wickhamrailcars.com) at about this
time.
For some while now I have been researching the fate of this American
company as it's website had not been updated since December 2002 and
none of the email addresses or other contact details are active.
I have now found out that the owner of this Company was a gentleman
called Michael Kukla but at the moment I am unable to track him down
although one of his former employees believes that he is now living
in the UK.
I would be very interested in contacting Mr Kukla as I believe he may
well have a considerable archive of Wickham paperwork perhaps even
the D Wickham & Co. Ltd's original Railcar and Trolley Record Books
which unfortunately did not get transferred to the museum at Ware.
Obviously, if anyone has any information on how to contact Mr Kukla
or any knowledge of the whereabouts of this archive I would be very
interested to hear from them.
