Thank you for your interest in ZERI. Unfortunately, there have been several attempts at getting a critical number of people together to offer the next ZERI training program in the past several years that were not successful.
We are the verge of deciding whether or not to continue to offer the CA Training for ZERI this year. By July 1, we need to get 30 people registered, or we will not be able to go forward with the training. We have about 15 people registered or in the process. We need your help now to help get others to join us. Here are five EASY ways of helping us promote the CA training:
1. Send the attached ZERI Training brochure by email to friends of yours that might be interested with a personal note urging them to attend, highlighting how ZERI helped you see things differently or what the ZERI Training did for you. Any friends in northern CA are the most likely to attend, so give some thought about anyone you know there that you could contact. Please forward to at least 10 people TODAY.
2. Ask people to review the ZERI Training brochure online at: http://www.zeri.org/ZERI%20TRAINING%20PROGRAM%20(5-27-09).pdf and other info about ZERI at: www.zeri.org
3. Insert excerpts from the brochure in the body of an email (Copy and paste the text below, make sure to omit the red titles first.)
4. Print the attached ZERI Training brochure and display them or hand them out at any community events or public locations in your area (e.g., libraries, environmental centers). You only need to print about 10 to display them. You never know how people are connected, so it's definitely worth trying this.
5.
We are now offering discount rates for members of the following Cooperating Organizations:
- CA Resource Recovery Association
- Future 500
- Western Sustainability and Pollution Prevention Network
- South Bay Business Environmental Coalition
- Local Government Commission
- Earth Resource Foundation
- Acterra
- GrassRoots Recycling Network
- CA Association of Recycling Market Development Zones
1. Before July 1, 2009:
- Email confirmation of their intention to participate (with a partner) to: Training@...
- Send a check (NO PayPal) to: Gary Liss/ZERI 4395 Gold Trail Way, Loomis, CA 95650.
- Register online (if they haven't already) at: http://www.regonline.com/Checkin.asp?EventId=723584
- Ask your friends and colleagues to register by the July 1st deadline
If we decide to cancel this training, it is questionable whether such training will be offered again in the U.S.
Please do one or more of the above action items TODAY, for ZERI, for Gunter Pauli and for the planet!
Thanks!
Gary Liss

I am writing to you regarding an exciting opportunity. Gunter Pauli is offering his first ZERI Certified System Designer training in California in the San Francisco Bay Area starting in August. I went through this in 2005 and found it to be very rewarding, hopeful and inspiring. It was a very intense and moving experience for me, highlighting many possibilities for how businesses can get to Zero Waste.
Attached is a brochure that highlights the program. You can get background on ZERI at www.zeri.org.
I view ZERI principles and approach as one of our key market development tools for us to get beyond the traditional crushing and grinding of recyclables to using all the tools that Nature provides us with, including applying biology, chemistry, physics, and natural laws and principles to solving problems with particular discarded materials, products and packaging. I believe this is a critical training program for the highest-level staff from local government agencies and sustainable businesses pursuing Zero Waste. ZERI training includes particular emphasis on:
- Cash Flow Analysis - Gunter is a former businessman, and focuses on how to generate more cash flow by developing new business ventures from discards, not just finding existing markets for materials.
- Natural Systems - Gunter looks at the interactions among the 5 natural kingdoms and has documented how wastes that go through 2 kingdoms eliminate toxicity and harm, and how the 5 natural kingdoms found in nature operate in complete balance to use all materials as nutrients or homes to something else at ambient temperature and pressure. It's not just a "systems" approach - it's learning and applying the knowledge from natural systems.
It would be great if you or someone from your organization could participate in this training. To register, go to: https://www.regonline.com/63374_723584A
Thanks for thinking out of the box to get to Zero Waste!
WHY SHOULD YOU ATTEND THIS TRAINING?
- You work on sustainability and climate change.
- You want to help create green jobs.
- You want practical solutions, communication methods, and programs you can implement tomorrow.

ZERI is a Swiss-based foundation that focuses on Zero Emissions Research and Initiatives. Zero Emissions means zero waste…zero pollution, whatever is left-over in one process turns into nutrients and energy for another, generating cash flow and creating social capital while turning the system into a “green job machine.” Research is about learning through a network of scientists and innovators: identifying appropriate technologies to meet people's needs with what is available -in a way that reinforces natural systems rather than depleting natural resources. And Initiatives are action: real projects and real developments within communities and within businesses that provide jobs and create wealth by inspired by natural systems and using all available resources.
Building on physics, mathematics, biology, chemistry, and economics, ZERI pioneered productivity increases by factors of 100 and more, cascading materials and energy, generating jobs and eliminating pollution.
ZERI builds on relationships among the 5 kingdoms of Nature:
Building systems to produce more with what we have, ZERI projects inspired by natural systems demonstrates that systems evolve from scarcity to abundance to meet the needs of all on Earth.
Attendees learn an interconnected systems approach to understanding and solving multiple problems. They are exposed to the details of existing projects from around the world and learn about practical examples of businesses and other organizations that have implemented this approach in their communities. The participants will jointly design projects they can undertake upon certification. The ZERI Training Program is held for a total of 12 days over a six-month period. The principal instructor will be ZERI founder, Professor Gunter Pauli. He will present in all the plenary sessions, accompany the participants in the learning process, and join in interactive group sessions. US based ZERI-Certified facilitators will assist Gunter and will offer assistance with the process, answer questions about content and provide guidance to attendees’ on proposed projects.
The training is a concentrated and rigorous program that optimizes learning, interaction, and participation. It consists of three intensive modules held approximately 6 – 8 weeks apart from each other. Each module takes place over a long weekend from Friday to Monday and is highly interactive with group exercises, videos, formal presentations and extensive attendee/facilitator interaction. The focus of the modules will be:
- Module 1: Systems Thinking:seeing the connections and identifying the opportunities
- Module 2: Implementing Innovations: becoming familiar with new processes and technologies, and learning to identify local assets and strengths
- Module 3: Designing Projects: Defining ZERI project parameters and strategies for implementation (against all odds).
Participants must attend all 3 modules. Tuition: Organization: $5500; Individual: $3500; A limited number of full-time teachers & college students: $1500. For teachers, the course is recommended for 6 in-service credits. Some partial scholarships are available. The price includes the training and all breakfasts/lunches during the sessions but is exclusive of lodging and transportation.
