This new group is designed as a forum for discussing Business Continuity.  From our viewpoint, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery are much more than technical solutions to business decisions.  Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery should be approached as highly complex projects, managed as highly complex projects, and deal with the “people” side of planning, testing, and improving.

Over the years, Business Continuity has evolved out of the old “Disaster Recovery tape backups” because businesses realized there is much more to manage in a crisis than computers.  In a crisis, companies have to deal with Wall Street, Customers, Suppliers, Federal and State regulators, the Press, Stockholders, and Employees (just to name a few).  No one has to look past Hurricane Katrina to see the number of businesses (large and small) that were wiped out because they had no Business Continuity plan.  Even the large entities that had plans (like the City of New Orleans), didn’t follow them.

The causes for not making plans as well as the causes of not following plans are complicated and interesting to explore.

Join us as we help each other develop Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans that address the “people” side of planning.

Thanks-
