Description

"The rise of China is one of the biggest economic events of our life time." (WSJ, 1/29/04, A2)

China Business Group (CBG) is a special interest group of Asian Financial Society. Most of the group members work in the financial industry in the US or China. The group also includes small business owners, investors, and other people who are interested in China business opportunities.

The group's events and discussion are focused on three areas.

- Bridge investment opportunities. China investment opportunities will be focused on private deals that are less than USD 10 million. Such deals usually do not hit the radar screens of Wall Street firms. Most of our deals come directly from business leaders and decision-makers in China. More importantly, these opportunities are not limited only to the privatization of state owned assets. We will also include the financing of management buyouts, funding for new growth initiatives, and the purchase of distressed bank debts. We will discuss small public Chinese companies that are listed on the US stock exchanges.

- Share Wall Street expertise. As a group of Wall Street professionals, CBG has a strong knowledge base to contribute to the restructuring of China's financial system, especially in the development of financial derivative markets. CBG has dedicated resources to recruit experts in the derivative and risk management areas. CBG will build relationships with Chinese newspapers and magazines to make our voice heard in China. CBG currently leads the AFS key research project ¨C ˇ°Exploring Derivatives in Chinaˇ±.

- Promote fast-growing local Chinese businesses. Such opportunities can be in e-commerce, international trade, or outsourcing. It can also be a private fund that invests directly into China.
