hi

  well regarding the sections,XAT had 3 sec. including GK for previous years.But u can't be assured by them that GK won't be coming.So better if u prepared for that sec.abt Quant it will be like CAT pattern and abt VA,it will be more so like CAT but it will be difficult.So give emphasis to VA.

the solution to this problem can be given this way->
on a closed circuit say n participants are cycling.
except Rahul there are n-1 participants
therefore according to Rahul following linear equation can be framed->
    1/5(n-1)   +    5/6(n-1)     =     n
=>n=31
so in total 31 participants were participating in the race.

Rahul took part in a cycling game with many others
in a circular closed circuit. After pedaling for
several minutes, he found that 1/5th of the cyclists
ahead of him and 5/6th of the cyclists behind him
together formed the total no. of participants. How
many were participating in the race?

This is a simple one

Root2=1.41 (You must be knowing this)

1. 50*root2=50*1.41=70.5

2. 70.5+100=170.5

3. 170.5*3=511.5

Got it??

hi friends here is the better method
find the roots of eqn 2x^2-7x +3=0
they come out to be 3,0.5 put these values  in the next eqn that is 4x^2+ax-3=0 ; and  get the values of a which come out to be -11,4 respectively.

manish mandhan <manishmandhan@...> wrote:

the original Q. was .......

if the equations 2x^2-7x+3=0 ,4x^2+ax-3=0 have
common roots then
values of a are i) -11 or 4,ii)-11 or -4,iii)11 or
-4 ,iv)11 or
4.answer is -11 or 4.

let a1 and b1 the the roots of the 1st eqn and
let b1 and c1 be the roots of the 2nd eqn, where b1 is
the common root .......
since b1 is the common root, it must satisfy the
original eqns .......

so

2(b1)^2-7(b1)+3=0 ............. I
4(b1)^2+a(b1)-3=0 ............. II

use simultaneous eqn technique to solve ( mehtod of
cross multipication, or  crammers rule is advised to
save time ......... )

therefore, .....

(b1)^2/(21-3a) = (b1)/(12+6) = 1/(2a+28)

therefore ........
(b1)=18/(2a+28)

and ......... (b1)^2=(21-3a)/(2a+28)

thereby comparing we get.....

(18)^2/(2a+28)^2=(21-3a)/(2a+28)

this implies that .....
(21-3a)(2a+28)=18^2=324

and, ..... (21-3a)(a+14)=162

....... => 21a + 294 - 3a^2 -42a = 162
....... => 3a^2 + 21a - 132 = 0
....... => a^2 + 7a - 44 = 0
....... => a(a+11)-4(a+11)=0
....... => (a+11)(a-4)=0

which gives the values of a as 4 or -11

hi thr,

the problem can be solved easily.. only thing u have to take care is while locating F and B with respect to A. It must be kept in mind that, "B is to the north of A" does not necessarily mean that B is 90 degrees north of A. Instead, it means that B is in the northen region with respect to A. Similarly with all other points and directions.The answer can be obtained in this manner.

all the best

Dear All

Hope it helps prospective students to make a decision..... and guys do it fast....online admissions close on 31st....www.gim.ac.in

Goa Institute of Management has done in 12 years what the others could do after decades, offering great managers to industries from all sectors. Industries' faith in one of India's premier B-schools was evident with the average pay package offered this year increasing substantially over last year's offerings. Nearly half the batch of 104 students was placed within the first six hours of the placement week, and before the first 24 hours were out companies had to leave empty handed. The first six hours saw more than one student being placed every 10 minutes.

71 companies were scheduled to participate in the placement process but only 38 companies could recruit students and the rest had to leave empty handed. The various verticals and companies in which jobs were offered were:

  • Consulting: Erix Advisors
  • IT / ITES: IBM, Cognizant, Infosys, Wipro , PCS, iGate, HCL, Satyam, Cranes Software.
  • Banking & Financial Services: ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Lombard, ICICI Prudential, B&K Securities, Kotak Securities, SBI Mutual Fund, SBI Life Insurance, ING Vysya .
  • FMCG & Consumer Durables: UB Group, Usha International
  • Others: Zee Telefilms , Nicholas Piramal, Shoppers Stop, VSNL, GENPACT, Pantaloon, IMRB, IFFCO TOKIO.

Companies made pre-placement offers even before the D-day, to students who had completed their summer projects with them. The average salary increased this year to Rs. 5.66 lakh as against Rs. 3.77 lakh last year. The highest pay packet was offered by Erix Advisors (Rs. 8.5 lakh gross). There were total 139 offers for a batch of 104 students. Infosys was the largest recruiter with 14 people receiving offers. This was closely followed by Tata Technologies and ICICI Lombard with 10 offers each. In terms of highest package, Erix Advisors recruited in Risk Management Consultant Profile at 8.5 Lacs Gross salary. The institute had many new entrants like iGate, Cognizant Technology Solutions, IBM Global Service, ICICI Bank & Sify. The other major recruiters included Wipro Technologies, UB Group, Pantaloons, VSNL and Satyam.

"Though the economy has risen but it is the hard work put up by the student committee and the placement cell that has brought a new paradigm for placement this year", said one of the students, attributing success for the placements this year. The institute has been rising from its ranks to be one of the best B-Schools of the country imparting MBA education. The results are evident from the Placement results and the comments of the industry personnel, who rated the student to be the best in their respective fields.

hi
well what i have got to know from guys in SIIB is that its not all that gr8. people think that it has got a good name due to the symbiosis brand attached but this is no longer true with so many institutes and distance learning programmes that have been started. so try for some other institutes infact SIBM is a top level institute you can try for

Can anyone please tell me if they know any ALUMNI of great lakes and can
introduce me to them by e-mail??

I mean not the SUDENTS but the ALUMNI. I believe the alumni base would
be 117 people of the first batch.

I would be indeed very helpful to all of you for this.

Thanks,

But I am slightly confused about how to go for the GD, essay and

Hi vijay,
  this is the solution to ur 2nd prblm.
   Let the horizontal distance be X kms.
   Let the inclined distance be Y kms. (so total distance of each
half
is X + Y)
   then,
       time required for forward journey is X/4 + Y/3;
       time required for backward journey is Y/6 + X/4;
   therfore total time(i.e time taken to return to home)= X/4 + Y/3 +
Y/6 + X/4 = X/2 +Y/2;
           given total time = 6 hrs (since 9.00-3.00==6.00)
           => X/2 + Y/2=6;
           => X + Y =12;
  thus distance travelled in either forward or return journey is 12
kms.

the soln can be proceeded as follows
assume the x'th term of series one equals y'th term of series 2 ,
we get the following eqaulity

13+(x-1)*6 = 12 + (y-1)*3

=> 6x - 3y = 2
divide by throughout by 3

2x - y = 2/3
now, x and y are natural numbers ( they r the number of terms) ,
therefore 2x - y shud be an integer , but as we see on lhs , we have
2/3 which is not an integer
hence none of the terms are common to both the series.

The Production of rice in the year 2001 was 1000 T which was 25 % of the  total food grain production in that year...In next year if the production of rice decreased by 4% and production of rice as a percentage of total food grain procuction increased by 5 % percentage points...What is the total food grain production in 2002..?

What does it mean by percentage points..?

Production in 2001 was 1000t which is 25% of total production.So total production is 4000t.In 2002 production of rice decreased by 4%,so it became 960t.Production of rice as a percentage of total production becomes 30%.Hence total production is (100*960)\30=3200t

ans 1
there are 15 math, 20 phy and 15 stat books
total = 50
from there 3 math, 5 phy and 3 stat books are picked
total left = 39
3 books are put back but remember they r not useful, so she wont any selection from these 3 books. so dont add them

so total no of ways in which 2 books can be selected from 39 books is = 39C2 <<< sample space.

event : one of the 2 books or both the books of physics
now possibilities :
both the books of physics : no of ways = 15C2
one book of physics : no of ways = 2 * 15C1*24C1

these r mutually exclusive .
so total ways : 15C2 + 2*15C1*24C1

probality = ( 15C2 + 2*15C1*24C1)/ 39C2

my ans differs from the given one .. an additonal factor of 2 .. please verify my soln ....

ans 2

n people
let a1, a2... a(n) be the ages .
a1 +.... a(n) / n = 90................ (given)
=> a1+.... a(n) = 90n
let a(n-1) and a(n) be 60 and 65
there fore
a1+... a(n-2) = 90n - 125 .............(A)

now a third person joins
total number of people = n - 2 + 1
                                 = n-1
let its age be x
therefore
a1 + .... a(n-2) + x / n-1 = p .............. p is a prime number

similarly proceding
a1+... a(n-2) + x = p(n-1)
from (A) :

90n - 125 + x = p(n-1)
x = p(n-1) - ( 90n - 125)
now 6 possibilities :

x = 92, 93, 94, 95, 96, 97
case 1 x = 92
there fore
p(n-1) - (90n - 125) = 92

=> 90n - p (n-1) = 33
divide by n-1 take 33 to lhs

=> (90n - 33) / n-1 = p

now ,
(90(n-1) + 57 ) / n-1 = p
90 + 57 / n-1 = p

=> 57 / n-1 is an integer
n-1 = factor of 57
     = 1, 3, 19, 57
n = 2,4,20,58
n = 2 is not possible
for n = 4, 20 , 58 calculate the value of p using 90 + 57/n-1 = p
we get
p = 109,93,91
93, 91 are not prime numbers
hence holds for p = 109 tht is x = 92

similrly work out teh remining cases
we find tht p calculated is not a prime number
hence doesnt hold for other cases.

=> ans is x = 92

ans 3

X X X

the total number of 3 digit numbers tht can be formed are 9 * 10 *10 = 900

consider the cases where no 2 :

number of possibilities = 8 *9*9 = 648

similarly for cases where no 3 is included : 8*9*9 = 648

now consider the cases where both 2 and 3 are not together = 7 * 8 * 8 = 448

now union of these will give : 648 + 648 -448 = 848

so total number of cases = total number of 3 digit numbers - ( total number of numbers which dont have 3 nor 2)
                                   = 900 - 848
                                   = 52

The answer is simple dude.... there are different ways to compose the same sentence..
1. have you had your dinner.
2. did you HAVE your dinner.
These two are the right ones.

No place the terms will meet.

Here is my reasoning.

1st series is addition of 6 between terms.
2nd series is addition of 3 between terms.

If we are adding to a common number x, then there is a
possibility of
the terms meeting for 100 times.

x+6, x+12, x+18 will be equal to
x+3+3, x+3*4 etc..

but here the first series will have

(x)+6, (x)+12 and so on.. where x = 13

and second series,

(x+1)+3, (x+1)+6, (x+1)+9 etc..

As we can clearly see, none of the terms meet this
way.

Sridhar

Kanchan,

For the 4th one, the reasoning goes like this:

From Pythagorus theorem  we have:  a^2  +  b^2  = c^2

where 'c' is the longest side of the triangle.

An extension of this will help you determine whether a triangle is acute or obtuse.

If a^2  +  b^2  > c^2      then the triangle is Acute
If a^2  +  b^2  < c^2      then the triangle is Obtuse

Prash

On 11/24/05, Nirav khandhadia <nirav_khandhadia2004@...> wrote:

Hi Kanchan the answers with solution to your question are:

1) If x = first day's wage, then
         x, x+25, x+50,x+75,x+100,x+125,x+150
x+x+25+x+50+x+75 = x+x+25+x+50+x+75+x+100+x+125+x+150
                                                             2

so, (4x + 150)2 = 7x + 525 => x = 225
So the earning on 4th day = x + 75 = Rs. 300

2) A = Now, A + 60 = 8   => 5x + 60  = =>  x = 20
    B    8          B + 60   11        8x + 60    11
So, A's share = 5x = $100
      B's Share = 8x = $160
So, B's Earning = $60 more than A's

3) David's one day task = 1/20
    Robert's one day task = 1/30
   If David starts from the 1st day, then the task of both of them for two days
     = 1/20 + 1/30 = 25/300 = 1/12
If u multiply the numerator by 12, then we get the complete task completed.
So if it is 12days, then for both it will be (12X2) = 24 days.
Thanks dear and if furthur queries are welcomed

Sreesha starts from Bangalore to go to Sitapur. First two hours he moves at constant speed ,suddenly his car tyre gets punctured, so he took 10 minutes to start again.Then he moved at a constant speed of 30 kmph. By the he reached Sitapur,he was late by 30 minutes. If his car was punctured 30 kms before sitapur, he could have been late only by 15 minutes.
What is the distance between Sitapur and Bangalore? What is the speed with which he started from Bangalore?
