ques 1. a tiled floor of a room has dimensions m*m sq.m. the dimensions of the tileused are n*n sq.m. all tiles used are green tiles except diagonal tiles which are red. after some years some green tikes are replaced by red tiles to form an alternate red and green tile pattern. how many green tiles are removed?(m not equal to n and the total number of tiles are odd)

ans will be
[(m*m+1)/ 2- 2m+1]
means if m=5 then no. of green tiles which change to red will be (5*5+1)/2= 26\2=13 - 2*5 +1=13-10+1=4.u can check it. n in case if m=3 then ans will be 3*3+1=10\2=5-2*3+1=0 u can check it
red  green  red
green red green
red green red its already in that order.
         solution is
earlier no. of red tiles=2m-1 coz its a square n if red tiles r on both the diagonals ,n green tiles will be m*m-(2m-1)
after we arrange red n green tiles let no. of red tiles be x green tiles will be m*m-x
after this arrangement no. of red tiles will be one no of grren tiles +1coz  we arranged gr n red tiles alteranately if no of tiles is odd then green tiles will be 1 more than red tile.
so x=m*m-x+1 so by addind one to no of green tiles we can equate it with the no of red tiles.
from here we get x=(m*m+1)/2
now this is no of red tiles we have on the floor now.earlier they were 2m - 1 so no of green tiles replaced will be difference b/w  no of red tiles now n red tiles earlier
so x - (2m -1)=      (m*m+1)/2 -2m+1

Q1> Ans is (d) and not (b).......all of the given is not a perfect
square.

q4> i think ans is (d) -- none of these
Here u have to consider that x,y have a common domain (2,3), and so
if x=y in this domain, then x-y=0, also x-y can be nagative.....so
lower limit of x-y cannot be said so easily.......and neighter the
ratio.

hi  ,
subtract x/3 from x then the format of the resultant will be like 2/3+1/3+2/3^2+3/3^3+........
hence 2/3 x =2/3+sumation of (n/3^n) till infnity
this format is easily solved.

Hi all can anybody solve these questions.
Q.1. Kishan takes up an assignment for a month at a crafts village where he is assigned to make a piece of pottery everyday. For every non-defective piece , he is promised to be paid Rs.80 while for a defective, he has to payRs.18 . if at the month, Kishan earns a net amount of Rs. 1518, then how many defective pieces did he make?
(1) 8
(2) 9
(3) 10
(4) 11

Here,if 'x' be the number of non-defective pieces and 'y' the number of defective ones,we have:

80x - 18y = 1518

Also,as is evident, x + y = 30
(a 'piece a day'......)

Therefore,  the number of non defective items = x =21 , and the number of defective ones = 30-21 = 9.

ques 1. a tiled floor of a room has dimensions m*m sq.m. the dimensions of the tileused are n*n sq.m. all tiles used are green tiles except diagonal tiles which are red. after some years some green tikes are replaced by red tiles to form an alternate red and green tile pattern. how many green tiles are removed?(m not equal to n and the total number of tiles are odd)

ans will be
[(m*m+1)/ 2- 2m+1]
means if m=5 then no. of green tiles which change to red will be (5*5+1)/2= 26\2=13 - 2*5 +1=13-10+1=4.u can check it. n in case if m=3 then ans will be 3*3+1=10\2=5-2*3+1=0 u can check it
red  green  red
green red green
red green red its already in that order.
         solution is
earlier no. of red tiles=2m-1 coz its a square n if red tiles r on both the diagonals ,n green tiles will be m*m-(2m-1)
after we arrange red n green tiles let no. of red tiles be x green tiles will be m*m-x
after this arrangement no. of red tiles will be one no of grren tiles +1coz  we arranged gr n red tiles alteranately if no of tiles is odd then green tiles will be 1 more than red tile.
so x=m*m-x+1 so by addind one to no of green tiles we can equate it with the no of red tiles.
from here we get x=(m*m+1)/2
now this is no of red tiles we have on the floor now.earlier they were 2m - 1 so no of green tiles replaced will be difference b/w  no of red tiles now n red tiles earlier
so x - (2m -1)=      (m*m+1)/2 -2m+1

the answer is 2,2,9
product of the ages is 36
36 can be factorized into groups of three as (2,3,6),(2,2,9),(1,2,18),(1,6,6),(1,1,36) etc
out these groups of factorization ,two have the same total 2,2,9 and 6,6,1
and the last sentence says one of his children is older than the other two!!
hence their ages are 2,2,9

the answer is 97.
it can be proceeded in the following way:
let the number of cigarettes be x,their initial price is 0.88 rupee/cig.
and assume that the shopkeeper reduces the price of each by y rupee
hence x(0.88-y)=84.39
x=84.39/(0.88-y)
facorizing 84.39=97*0.87 now since 97 is prime hence denominator in the above expression has to be 0.87 for x to be an integer .
therefore x=97!!.......ans

a)83 b)97 c)89 d)85 e)87

ans will be 97. if price is 88p then no of ciagreetes that can be sold=84.39/88p= 95.8 or approximately 96 but if price is reduced then more than 96 ciagrettes will be sold that is 97

well for the fifth..the total no. of diamonds is 60

let total no. of diamonds be 'x'

(x/2)+2 + x/4+1 + x/8+ 1/2 + x/16+1/4 = x

solving we get x = 60

the factors of 36 are 2*2*3*3
now ages can be
1,6,6
2,2,9
2,3,6
out of these the last 2 sets are possible as there has o be 'single' elder brother!
