1. How long does it take for a student to prepare completely for GMAT
2. I have just 10+2+3 = 15 years of education, US schools ask for 16
years of formal education. How do I then apply for and MBA in US

4. Is work exp a must for applying in US and other B-schools

Dinky is picked up from school everyday by his father in car and they reach home at 5.00 p.m.On a particular day since the school got over an hour earlier than the usual time,he started walking towards his house at 3kmph.He met his father on the way and they both reach home 15 minutes earlier than their usual time.What is the speed of the car ?

yeah.

I think this should help.

Let the distance from the school to the point A where the boy is picked = x km

Let the speed of car = y kmph

Now, the school, gets over and the boy starts walking.

Time taken to reach the point A = 3/x

Car also reaches the point A, and had the school got over at regular time, car would have reached the school just at that time.

So, time taken for car to travel that rest of the distance + time taken by the boy to travel the distance = 1hr

3/x+y/x=1

x=3+y

also, they reach home 1/4 earlier. this is because car does not have to travel from point A to school twice.

so, 2y/x=1/4.

8y= 3+y

y=21kmph.

Thats the speed.

I think, if you find the reasoning obscure, make a diagram. It would be clearer then.

Answer - 21 kmph

Solution

They father and son duo reached home 15 minutes early on this particular day. This essentially means that the father met the son at a distance which would take 7.5 minutes by car from the school.

This means that the father met the son 7.5 minutes before the appointed time which is 5 p.m i.e. at 4:52:30 seconds. Or in other words, the son has walked a distance that he can cover at 3 kmph for 52 min 30 seconds = 7/8 of an hour.

So the son walks a distance = 7/8 * 3 = 21/8 km.

The car usually takes 7.5 minutes (i.e the time it has saved today) to travel this 21/8 km.

Therefore, speed of the car = (21/8) / (1/8) = 21 kmph {Note 7.5 minutes = 1/8 hours}.

I hope the above solution explains your doubt.

Is there any restriction that the people who undergoes degree course through correspondence are not eligible to take the CAT exam. If they got selected in CAT they will not be allowed to join for the course
