A set of consecutive positive integers beginning with 1 is written
on the blackboard. A student came along and erased one number. The
average of the remaining numbers is 35 7/17(35 + 7/17) . What was the number
erased?

Raju has 128 boxes with him. He has to put atleast 120 oranges
in one box and 144 at the most. Find the least number of boxes which will

Q. At a certain moment a watch shows 2 min lag
although it is running fast.
     If it showed a 3 min lag at that moment, but also
gains by 1/2 min more a day than its current speed
     it would show the true time one day sooner than it
usually does.
     How many mins does the watch gain per day.

Hi:

The sum to infinity of a GP with |r| <1, S = a/(1-r)

Choice 2 is ruled out first. The sum of the first two terms itself is greater than 4.

Among the remaining choices, the sum to infinity of only the first series works out to be 4.

i.e. S= 6/(1+1/2) = 4.

Series 2 is not a GP. {Or it should be 3, -1.5, 0.75..... Even in that case, S= 3/(1+1/2) = 2}

For series 4, S = 5/(1-1/2) = 10.

We dont even need to bother about the sum of cubes... Seems to be a redundant info.

So, the answer is 1.

INFINITE GEOMETRIC PROGRESSION:
The sum to an infinite GP is given by:
S (infiniti)= a/(1-r)
Where a is the first term and r is the common ratio.
Substitute the various answer choices here�
1. s(infiniti)=6/(1-(-1/2))=6/(3/2)=4.

"sum of their cubes is 192" is'nt really required!!!

In questions like this, always go by the answer choices!!! Even if u
get lucky only at the 4th  choice, u'd still b saving a considerable
amount of time!!!

Hi:

We can use the successive division rule to arrive at the answer for the first problem.

Break up 24 into relative primes, i.e 3*8. We can apply successive division method to find the hightest power of 3 in 365!

3 |13

3 |4

Adding up the remainders of successive division, the highest power of 3 = 121+40+13+4+1 =179

We cannot apply successive division method for 8. So, break it into primes, i.e 2*2*2. We can find the highest power of 2 and then divide the result by 3 to get the hightest power of 8.

2 |91

2 |45

2 |22

2 |11

2 |5

2 |2

Highest power of 2 = 182+91+45+22+11+5+2+1 = 359.

Therefore, highest power of 8 = 359/3 = 119

Therefore, the highest power of 24 that can divide 365! is obtained by taking the lower of the two, the highest power of 8 and the highest power of 3, i.e 119.

2.Find the no. of ways of xpress'g 2700 as a prod. of two
factors.

Breaking 2700 into prime factors.

2700 = 2^2*5^2*3^3

The no. of ways in which 2700 can be expressed as the product of two nos. is = ((2+1)*(2+1)*(3+1))/2 = 18

This is including 1 and the number 2700 itself. The no. of ways in which 2700 can be expressed as the product of two nos excluding 1 and the no. is = 18-2 = 16.

1. First divide 1296 by 13.The remainder is 9

2. Take thew second number and divide it by 9.In this case it's the same.Hence the remainder for the second number is 9.

3.Multiply the two remainders i.e. 9*9 = 81

4.Divide 81 by 13.The remainder is 3

Hence the Final answer is 3.

since raju has to put atleaast 120 oranges in one box.. the remaining boxes are 128-1 = 127 and remaining oranges are 144-120 = 24

so he has to put 24 oranges in 127 boxes so that least no. of boxes have same number of oranges...

so he puts one ornage each in 24 boxes .. ( to maximise the filling of the boxes..) so 103 boxes have 0 oranges in them

Had the question been find the " maximum " number of boxes that have same number of oranges.. then

raju can put 120 oranges in one box and all remaining 24 oranges in one box . so max number will be 126
