For those might be unaware, RSH 0-4-0ST 7705 moved to the Garw Valley Railway
last week. The boiler still remains at the Severn Valley but the restoration
will continue at Pontycymer shed overseen by the 7705 loco group. Once work to
the boiler is complete, the loco will be assembled at Pontycymer in readiness
for operations.
In addition, a flat wagon, coal shovel, Lister autotruck, trailer and an
electric platform tug have now arrived at Pontycymer. The shed is now almost
filled to bursting! The brakevan has moved to Quainton Road for temporary
storege.
It is hoped that in the spirit of supporting the local tourism strategy, the GVR
(with VGR members support) will be putting on a display at the Garw Carnival in
August, perhaps even a presence in the actual parade, followed a few weeks later
by an Open Day at the locomotive works.
Plans are progressing well for the works extension which will provide a larger
3-road facility with workshops, office and amenities. This week saw the track
sprayed by a weedkilling machine which has made a huge visual difference to the
line.
That's the latest folks!
Nick.
