Grassroots Gardens of Buffalo is seeking spring and summer interns!
Grassroots Gardens of Buffalo is a community gardening program working collaboratively with the public and private sectors—including the City of Buffalo , block clubs and other not-for-profit organizations—to revitalize neighborhoods and build quality of life through the reuse and beautification of vacant land.
Benefits include valuable work experience & making lasting connections and professional contacts within and beyond important greening organizations in Buffalo . All intern positions include flexibility in order to cater to the strengths and weaknesses of the applicant, have flexible hours as well as start/end dates.
Internship position #1- Administrative Assistant
General description: Will work directly with Coordinator to assist in the administrative duties and outreach efforts of Grassroots Gardens of Buffalo .
This includes:
Research into funding opportunities
Maintenance and improvement of membership program
Research possible ‘corporate partners’
Research neighborhood groups in target areas
Distribute information
Survey volunteers and residents
Necessary Qualities:
Good communication skills
Basic computer knowledge
Positive attitude
Internship position #2- Horticultural Assistant
General description: Will work with Coordinator and lead garden volunteers to improve gardens through direct gardening assistance and through increased outreach and volunteer recruitment.
This includes:
Hands-on Gardening assistance
Research neighborhood groups in target areas
Distribution of information/canvassing
Survey volunteers and residents
Necessary Qualities:
Willing to get dirty
Knowledge/interest in gardening
Positive attitude
Education/understanding of race/class issues
