I'm having some trouble interpreting that.
None of those radios can dead-key 100 watts
and not backswing badly.
I'm going to assume what you mean is that
one way or another the radios output has
dropped.

I think you're on the right track. I'd start by
verifying the transmitter alignment. If the
alignment is correct, and checking it doesn't
guide you to the bad stage, signal trace it
with a scope to verify proper stage gain. If
you've never done that, start by checking a
known good radio and noting the peak-to-peak
voltages at the bases and collectors of all
the RF amp stages. Verify that the proper
amount of modulating audio is showing up
at the driver and final by noting the dead-key
and 100% modulation voltages on the known
good radio and comparing them to the other
radio. The Galaxy Saturn Turbo is a regular
radio with a 2 transistor linear amp added to
increase the output. A regular radio and a
2 device amp can be used to get your com-
parison voltages.

Hi Sam
Your problem could be in the power supply.
Make sure the voltage isn't dropping on keyup..
Hope this helps..

40 average or peak?
If it's average, leave it be. When tuned up those
radios produce 150 peak watts on an accurate
meter and around 200 on a loose meter. To
have good modulation and no backswing on an
average reading meter the average power can't
be anymore than 1/4 of the peak power. In this
case 40 average watts will equal 160 peak watts
at 100% modulation. In other words, about 40
average watts is all you're going to get out of
that radio without compressing the positive
modulation peaks and creating negative carrier
shift (backswing on an average reading meter
when modulating).
> I told him that the high
> power was probably shot but I was not sure.. oh, when he tries to

Tune the radio for maximum peak (modulated)
power. If you have a powered peak reading
meter, set the range controls for the front
panel RF power knob so that the maximum
dead-key power is 1/2 of the peak and the
minimum is 2 watts. The maximum is for
FM use since FM has a consistent amplitude.
The minimum is for running other CB amplifiers.
The normal setting will be where the dead-key
wattage is 1/4 of the peak.
If you don't have a good peak reading meter but
you have a scope, set the RF power range
controls to where at maximum the AM amplitude
increases by 50% at 100% modulation, and
at minimum the dead-key is 2 watts. These
settings are the same as above. The normal
setting will be where the AM amplitude doubles
at 100% modulation.

hi guys were cant i by the old model of the Renger 2950 no the DX
model in cooper electronics they sell the mirage RCI 2950 is the seme
as the Renger 2950 like the old model i dont like the DX PLS Hellp
thanks and have a nice day guys.
The best way to get 120 channels is to install
a kit that switches in different loop mixing crystals.
The appropriate kit will use the stock crystal plus
2 others that create 2 other nice, symmetrical
40 channel bands. With a properly modified
clarifier you'll be able to pick up the 5 "A" channels
in each band (15 total channels). So, in the end
you'll have 135 total channels. Just keep in mind
that the Washington was designed to cover a range
of only 45 channels (the regular 40 and the 5 "A"
channels that are in the regular CB band). There
will be some performance degradation as you go
away from where the radio is aligned.
As for the "6 position switch mod"--it's a myth.
The PLL chip will go 26.815 (15 below 1) to
28.045 (64 above 40). Sliding down to 26.805
gives you the 16th channel below Channel 1.
That's 80 extra channels and it only requires 4
switch positions. Some techs do a mod where
they "float" the pin 10 logic in order to get more
lowers, but I don't recommend it for two reasons:
A) As I already explained, the Washington
chassis is not broad banded. In other words,
the performance beyond about 20 channels
past the regular CB band is noticeably degraded.
There are "broad-banding" mods, but they ruin
the stock performance by making the receiver
noisy and the transmitter sloppy.
B. "Floating" pin 10 is a risky and difficult mod.
If you blow pin 10 chances are the synthesizer
won't work at all.

me out??
thanks and thats what midland says (repair shop). they also said i
could take it to a repair shop if they will do warranty work. ill let
the club know what it was when i get it back

Sounds like a synthesizer (or related oscillator) problem.
Those are not easy "cookbook" type repairs--especially
on a model that's not really popular.
I recommend sending it to a factory repair facility.

I got a midland 79-290 and a wilson 5000 magnet mount antenna and i
just installed it in my truck. When i hooked up the swr meter i got
no out put on the scale i also got no output on the display meter.
the tx light and indicator on the screen light up the manual for the
radio says that if the tx indicator is below half power than it is
most likely a antenna problem but i tried a nother antenna that i
know works and it did the same thing. i tried it with another radio
and it did not transmit or recieve a signal. the weather station dose
come in tho. please can any one help thanks
i just got this and need to see if there are any mods for it. if any one can help i would really appriciate it. i am not havig any luck finding a site that even has excalibers.

Hi this Radio is of the Galaxy radio type better known as the FALCON 2000 .I
once had one when I was out in NM. Here is some infomation that you might
have or not but banyway good luck. ............................A.EXCALIBUR
SSB (srt-3600-10-Board)1. removeTR-32 2.change R-174 910k) to a 2.2k 3.
change R-187 (10k) to a 2.2k ( power
mod)........................................................................
......The EXCALABUR with the (ept-3600 10z board) 1.same as above then
adjust VR-1.."S" meter VR-2..ssb "S" meter VR3_ ssb S QUELCH VR4..AM
..Squelch VR5-FM-Deviation VR7-carrier Balance.. VR8_..Rf Tran Meter..
VR-12..Ssb Tran Power VR-13.. AM trans Power VR-14..AM MOD VR-16 .CW tone
VR-802.. low ssb power VR-803..low am power. May be this can be of some
help. Thank you Sams Ram
