Mark,
There was also another book from that era DIESEL LOCOMOTIVE ROSTERS published by Wayner Publications some time around 1970 whcih covered the roster of every Class 1 and Short Line railroad.  I still have my copy.  The locomotive on the top half of the cover is PRR 5823, a Baldwin DR12-8-3000 (Centipede).  It also is a great reference book for early locomotive rosters.  I also used it in the early years of my vacation to find Short Line railroads that had interesting power.

Consulting the Diesel Spotter's Guide this morning, as I obviously
should have last night, reveals:

- I forgot about the NdeM centipedes.
- The DR-6-4-15, like the E and PA units, were indeed A1A-A1A trucked. I
should have remembered the often repeated "The NYC had no C-C units."
- Later DR-4-4-15 units had the more famous sharknose cabs.

Any other old geezer diesel fans out there remember how exciting it was
when the ads for DSG, with the picture of the crowded Pennsy engine
terminal, started showing up in Trains? It was my first "grown up" train
book. When I got to tech school after basic training, I had my parents mail
it to me even though I had little opportunity to diesel spot. After 42
years, it remains an indispensible reference book and for $3.50, quite a
bargain.

Happy Veteran's Day to all you vets!

Ive only been to Ashtabula twice, but I seem to remember a jackknife-style
road bridge.  I think it was out of service for repainting last time I was
there.  Is it back in service?

Is this list of NYC related Cuyahoga drawbridges correct?  I think some of us discussed this at length in this group in the past.
"Bridge 4" = Current FIRR route to Cereal Foods per the photo. Looking at the old maps, a bridge has been at this lcoation going back to the Big Four.
Bridge 1 = Drawbridge at mouth of Cuyahoga (LS&MS then NYC, Conrail, NS).
Bridge 2 = Current unused RR drawbridge right next to Carter Road highway drawbridge. A bridge at this location also goes back to the Big Four days.
Bridge 3 = Drawbridge that once stood just south of the Lorain Carnegie bridge that went from DK Tower across the Cuyahoga to "central flats."

Very nice pic! I didn't even know that bridge was still in use! glad it see it is! Is there any place around or in Cleveland that any Scherzer Rolling Lift bridges or any Jack-knife bridges are still in use? If so any safe spots to watch one in use? I never got to see one movee and I think that would be pretty cool to see! Thanks!

A belated Happy Birthday (number 234) to all my fellow Marines yesterday, November 10th.
In the spirit of veterans day today, I offer this quote that is etched on the base of the USMC War Memorial in Washington, DC:
"In honor and in memory of the men of the United States Marine Corps who have given their lives to their country since November 10, 1775."

Looking at the model number again, I'm probably wrong calling them C-C
units. I'd have to do some more research but possibly the 6-4 indicates 6
axles with 4 powered, which could make it a B-A1A trucked unit. I believe

Every once in a while, I can actually find something I'm looking for.
According to the back of the card, that is: Baldwin "Babyface" No. 3401. New
York Central System Diesel Locomotives identifies 3401 as a model DR-4-4-15,
one of 4 A units built for the Central in 10/1948. They also had 2 B units.

The Central also had 4 DR-6-4-15 C-C trucked passenger units with the
same type cabs and 2 C-C trucked B units.

Collinwood and EMD re-engined at least some of both sets of these
Baldwins.

I'm pretty sure only Pennsy and Seaboard had the centipedes. This
Baldwin was called the Babyface by fans, but I think it shared a look alike
cab with the centipedes.
