Interesting link that details plans for EMD to modify a CN locomotive to run on LNG using fuel system components provided by Westport Power.

I have updated the layout and MCP files for the Cleveland area and for the
routes between Cleveland and Toledo (Chicago Line and Cleveland Line) The files
can be found in an ATCS folder in this group. I'll leave them posted for a week
or so for anyone who is interested to download.

These have been completely redone to cover more area, including the NKP through
Avon Lake, and the coding for the rest of the layouts has been totally changed.
There may still be some bugs, and a few locations haven't been completely
decoded, so consider these a beta version, until they have been exercised and
more thoroughly checked.

Because of the changes, the matching MCP data included in the Zip files has to
be uploaded for the layouts to work properly. The old MCP data will no longer
work.

Caution -- As previously mentioned, the data conflicts with some layouts posted
by others on the ATCSmon group for the Chicago Line, and it is up to the user to
determine which layout and data they prefer, and load them accordingly.

Hello All

One quick question. Will ATCS work on the Windows 7 platform. I need to reformat this machine and was wondering before doing so. Thank you and happy holidays to everyone.  Milan

Hi.

Wow, somebody has been working hard. Very nice layouts. I don't know
which one I like better.

Do your two layouts "conflict" with each other, or is your Caution below
in reference to other layouts, and not the 2 you just uploaded a day ago?

Thanks for all the map making.

Arnie:

The two layouts I posted do not conflict with each other, and I purposely
overlapped them since Berea is such a popular spot for people to visit. People
can choose whichever suits their purpose at the time.

The conflicting layout is one posted by another for the Chicago line across
Ohio. In spite of there being a coordinator for Ohio layouts at the time, things
got mixed up, and our decoding differs. People just have to be careful what MCPs
are loaded last, since they will overwrite any earlier information in the
database for the same locations, and those locations will no longer work
properly on the opposite layout.

I'll stick with your layouts.
Hopefully, the MCP in Elmwood will be transmitting in the next few weeks
and I can get an MCP server up.

What makes you think it will go live tomorrow? I hope so.

Right now, my house is a mess. My wife finally got her way and is
having a bunch of reconstruction done in the area where my computers
are, where myDSL line is, ect. My internet access will be crimped.
But, I will endevor to check things out.

By the way, are you the person who left an interesting message in the
ATCS group about a potential west side MPC site that could pick up 194,
Ram, Max, etc? That would be a dandy.

Later,
Arnie

Yup, that was me. My brother bought a house on the top of the hill in
Strongsville and it has a perfect line of sight straigt along the line. When I
did a field survey with a yagi 5 feet off the groud, i was amazed at how many
MCP's I was getting. It won't be up until January-Febuary though, but it is

Looks like Elmwood is being configured today. I got 75502390070101 and
75502390070202 in my logs at 12:49 pm on the BCP side, three reset messages with
70101 and one an ack message on 70202. When Root Road was set up, the same day
it was configured it was live. With Shefield, there was a week gap. I'm too far
west for direct reception, though, so thats all I got for now.

Hi.

After work, I drove by Elmwood. It was getting dark and raining, but on
the top of the Elmwood ATCS mast, I saw what looks like a white
omnidirectinal antenna. No Yagi things were mounted from what I could
see from my car window.

Then I got home and eagerly set up my laptop computer in my wife's den
upstairs and hooked it to a radio.

Presto, ATCS is live with messages like this on the NS MCP frequency:

75502390070202

(11 00) K15,K11
(31 00) K16,K15,K11
(3D 00) K16,K15,K14,K13,K11
(25 00) K16,K13,K11
(01 00) K11

I am waiting to hear some train horns so that I can see what happens on
the ATCS dispatcher display. No train yet in the past 6 hours....

I do not see any other signals other than from this lone Elmwood (?)
MCP. I am still hoping to somehow get Bay Village in the future when I
mount the antenna in a better spot. Until I find a good roof location,
the antenna is for now sitting inside the house which does not help
reception.

That is indeed Elmwood, and looks like you got excelent coverage of it. Are you
planning on running a dedicated server? If so I'm sure James the local guru with
decoding will have the K numbers decoded very quickly. I would guess that the
decodes will be very similar to Leavitt Road, but don't want to be too hasty and
say for sure, since I am lousy at decoding the bits. Also I don't think Bay
Village is live yet for some reason, in the three weeks the antenna has been up
I would have gotten at least one ACK message from the BCP, and I have nothing in
my logs.

On a side note, does anyone know when the bits are decoded do we need need an
updated layout or can we just edit the MCP database entry with the nmemonics for
the layout to work?

Thanks for the report and if you can, post your log file in the files section so
i can check it out.

Jason

To see anything on the layouts, you'll have to populate the MCP data in the
database. I caught a westbound through Elmwood at about 6:50. Here is the MCP
data:

K11 - NWK (Switch normal)
K12 - RWK (Switch reverse)
K13 - TK (OS track occupancy)
K14 - EGK (Eastbound signal)
K15 - WGK (Westbound Signal)
K16 - EAK (Approach block on east side)

If you've never done that before, you select Configure > MCP Information, or
click on the antenna icon at the far right of the icon band. Next find the
address, and double-click on the line. Fill in the name "Elmwood", then click
on Edit Mnemonics under "indication information", and fill in the table. When
you are done, click "OK" to close each window. If you already have the layout
open, you will then have to restart the dispatcher display to load in the new
data. (Actions > Restart Dispatcher Display".)

Note that "Elmwood" has to be spelled exactly as it appears on the layout. It
is case insensitive. The mnemonics in this case have to be all in capital
letters.

Hi.

Yes, I may try populating the MCP data if I get some free time. OR, I
may wait till Jame the Map Maker updates the Layout MCP's. Either way,
I have a smile today.

Yes. I'll try to swing by the used computer store in Lakewood to pick
up something just for that purpose.

decoded very quickly. I would guess that the decodes will be very similar to
Leavitt Road, but don't want to be too hasty and say for sure, since I am lousy
at decoding the bits. Also I don't think Bay Village is live yet for some
reason, in the three weeks the antenna has been up I would have gotten at least
one ACK message from the BCP, and I have nothing in my logs.

I am hoping that Bay Village is not live yet and thus my lack of any
reception from here. (I am hoping that I will be near enough to pick it
up when it is live).

What exactly is the "log File" in ATCS? Not being near the ATCS
computer, I am hoping it is something that can be saved to disk and
forwarded.

Arnie:

That's exactly what a log file is. You can capture the data the program receives
to a file, which you can either play back later, or forward to somebody else.
They are useful when you are mobile, since you can later look at what was
happening when you aren't driving, or for quick review of data captured over a
long period of time, since you can control the speed of playback.

They are relatively simple to set up by clicking on "File > Capture > To File".
(or click on the second icon from the right) A window will then pop up asking
for a name for the file. The program will default to the current date, or you
can put another name in for easier reference, and the program will automatically
append the date to that name. You will find the resulting log file, strangely
enough, in the ATCS Logs folder.

Note that when a log file is being recorded, the log icon (second from the
right) will change color. You can click on that icon to turn the logging off or
back on again.

Another way to set up logs is to use rules, which allow you to capture the
events from one specific station or group of stations, or only events that meet
certain criteria, such as when certain bits are active, or for specific message
types. You probably don't want to get into those details right now.

Looks like you might have your wish starting in the next few days. Bay Village
was not broadcasting yesterday when I went by, but I see from the Lorain feed
that a message was sent to:

75502390060101

Which is numerically the next station down the line, and logically for Bay
Village.

Let us know if you see anything.

(addresses ending in 101 are for computer control (c/c), which are used for
programming and ongoing troubleshooting. The useful MCP address will end in 202
or 102, when it comes on the air.)

The instructions in message 23351 are pretty complete. Is there something
specific that you don't understand that I can explain more completely?

Keep in mind that the Lorain server is too far away from Elmwood to receive
data, so it is not showing any indications. You have to be mobile and monitor
the site with a radio within a couple of miles to receive anything. If Arnie
gets a server operating, then you would be able to see activity passed on from
his server, since he us located quite close the interlocking.

(I can also post an updated MCP file, but I thought I'd wait until more
locations were on line and decoded. In the meantime, it's a good idea to
understand how to edit MCP information, since you can then add to or correct the
data by yourself. That is, assuming the layout is correct.)

The address is:

75502390060202

If you have been monitoring the Lorain server, that address should already show
up in your database. If not, you can add it using the configure MCP information
menu. If you add it, note that you only need the address, the name, and the MCP
information to get things started. You can leave the rest blank.

Did a drive by this afternoon, Bay village is indeed live, 75502390060202. And
to top that, as I sit here in the parking lot in Avon Lake, I am watching NS
employee's route the coax down mast from its brand new antenna! This one will
likely be right on the fringes of my server, so I'll have to wait till they
activate it to see if I can receive it on the MCP side or not. I'm crossing my
fingers and hope I have coverage. Will up date when I start getting indications.
