Problem with Comfigurator 1.2.0 install?   Message List

RE: [comfort-technical] Problem with Comfigurator 1.2.0 install?

That cured it thanks J

After un-installing there were still the Comfigurator entries in the registry (except for the COMFIG~1.EXE bits). I guess there must have been a rogue entry in there somewhere.

Cheers,

Paul.

Paul,

I suggest you uninstall Comfigurator, backup your registry, then delete the following keys (if present):

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ccl

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\COMFIG~1.EXE

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\Comfigurator.exe

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Comfigurator.Document

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cytech\COMFIG~1

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cytech\Comfigurator

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.ccl

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.cct

As far as I can tell, this should remove all knowledge of Comfigurator file associations.  Then reinstall Comfigurator 1.2.0 and try again.

Regards,

Malcolm

I’ve tried that as well – same error message. Do you have a registry clearer for all the bits Comfigurator installs?

Paul.

Paul,

I'm not sure what has happened on your machine, as I have followed the same sequence as you on my Windows 2000 Server machine (i.e. installing 1.2.0 on top of 1.1.6) and have no problems other than the missing association which I restored as I described.  What happens if you right-click a .CCL file, don't choose "Open with Comfigurator", but click "Choose Program" and follow the instructions I posted?  Note that on Windows 2000, when you get to the "Open With" dialog, you need to click "Other..." to browse to the Comfigurator installation folder.

Regards,

Malcolm

Hi Malcolm,

Unfortunately this doesn’t work L  I think the associations have been well and truly messed up. I’ve tried associating and de-associating many times, the .ccl files show with the new icon but the “This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel.” Message appears every time no matter what I do.

I also get the same message if I right click a .ccl file (box appears with “open with Comfigurator” at top) and select this option.

I was going to try removing Comfigurator and making sure all registry entries are also removed before re-installing. I’m not sure this will do anything though so will wait to see if there’s anything else you can suggest?

Are you going to release a fixed version?

Cheers,

Paul.

Paul,

You are quite right - the .CCL file association is not being set up by the installation.  Unfortunately this was not picked up on testing, and I can only assume that the settings in the InstallShield project got lost somehow when I upgraded to a new version of InstallShield.  However, you should be able to set the association by using the following steps:

1. Right-click on any .CCL file in Windows Explorer.

2.Select "Open With" then "Choose Program...".

3. Browse to the Comfigurator installation folder and select Comfigurator.exe.

4. Check the "Always use ..." checkbox.

5. Click the OK button.

Regards,

Malcolm Green

I just installed 1.2.0 over the top of 1.1.6 on Windows 2000 Server. The app runs fine but the file associations got screwed up for .ccl files. Windows said that no prog was associated with the .ccl file when double-clicking. I also tried manually associating the .ccl extension to Comfigurator but the problem remained.

I un-installed and re-installed but the same problem occurred. I have also removed, deleted the association and re-installed but with no luck.

I think the MSI package may not be registering the associations properly???

Paul.

Comfigurator Version 1.2.0                           July 2003
==========================

KNOWN ISSUES
------------

1. When converting a CSX file to CCL, Comfigurator attempts to convert
a response sequence containing action 197 (Send RS232) to the
corresponding Smartfit, C-Bus or EIB command in CCL.  As there is
no information in the CSX file to identify what type of UCM the
command applies to, CF attempts to match each type in turn (in the
order Smartfit, C-Bus then EIB) until it gets a match, or if not
just
reverts to the generic RS232 command.  However, some action code
sequences are valid as both C-Bus and EIB commands so may not be
translated to the correct version.  If this occurs, you will need
to
edit the response using the Response Wizard to convert it to the
   correct format.
