Syd Mead / Blade Runner   Message List

Conceptual artists have a profound impact on the way films look, yet
their contribution to motion pictures is often overlooked. This
month, the Michigan Theater sheds light on this realm with a
documentary about one of the world's most influential visualizers, Syd
Mead. VISUAL FUTURIST includes interviews with some of the greatest
minds in design who share their experiences working with Syd Mead in
automotive, industrial, and film design. Listen to Syd Mead recall
his influences and life tales of working on some of the largest
projects the world has ever undertaken.

Mead spent much of his early creative career as a designer for
automotive companies before going on to work across a broader spectrum
of industry, including visualisation for film. Constantly updating
his time frame to approximately twenty years into the future, Mead is
constantly and literally creating the American Dream on his canvases.
His work on Blade Runner set the standard for some unprecedented
looks, and his art has had a profound effect on a host of other films,
including 2010, Aliens and Tron, as well as more recent titles such as
MI:III.

Join us at the Michigan Theater on March 18 and 19 at 7pm for the
theatrical premier of VISUAL FUTURIST directed by Joaquin Montalvan.
We will also be showing a new print of BLADE RUNNER: THE FINAL CUT the
same week, March 14-20, giving film lovers a unique opportunity to see
this classic work in all its glory and to get a new insight into how a
film like this is realized.

Michigan Theater,
603 E Liberty St, Ann Arbor, MI 48104
