Michael, Josef,
Thank you for your useful advice on the Currency Administration Tool!
Meanwhile, I've added all the data I have for the Currency Design Tool:
http://www.cyfranogi.com/currency/03/
I also made it start out blank so that the user starts with a blank slate.
It's possible to make the selections and print out the page (and the
selections made will be printed out, at least that's what my printer does).
The links point to our Lucid wiki. I think some time next week we will
have the PmWiki up at our Cyfranogi site and so we can point to pages there.
Next, I'll make a button to "Save" that will show a report based on your
selections. You'll then be able to print the record (I will try to make
it fit on one page). You'll also be able to give it a name and comment
and save it to an archive. Then there will be another page where you
can browse through the archive.
This is simple, but I think it is quite powerful as a building block. I
think that instead of making this building block more complicated, it
would be better to connect it to more resources:
- wiki pages for each design issue (including more detailed explanations
of each choice)
- case studies (existing currencies)
- problems solved or not (and case studies that illustrate them). Such
a list would serve as a "pre-design tool" that would make it clear why
design a currency in the first place, as Lucas asked.
- diagrams for organizing the design issues (such as the design features
matrix I helped draw)
- a way to retrieve, for each design choice, what are the existing
currencies that made that choice
- "role play" scripts. For each kind of participant (buyer, seller,
speculator, banker, community organizer, funder, etc.) consider how they
would approach each currency design issue based on their own interests.
- map of role interrelationships regarding each design issue (who
conflicts with who)
- as Raimundas mentioned, we could study the "core values" (such as
listed in your paper) and consider their relationships with various
currencies and participant profiles
The tool as it stands now is pretty much what I envisioned when we spoke
in Wales. I hope to meet your most basic needs (such as saving and
printing) and then we might build on it.
Sarah, Becky, Geoff, John, as I've worked more with your entries I'm
quite impressed how much thought you've put into this. I think it's a
really helpful overview of all of the issues. I'll need to include a
link to your paper
http://wicc.newport.ac.uk/publications/ccdesignfeatures11.doc
and add more information about you.
I appreciate our feedback, and especially from current and prospective
users of community currencies.
Thank you to Bala Pillai and John Rogers for leading our laboratory into
this very promising field of community currency!
