This discussion group is for those who are interested in the history of railways in Derbyshire and the immediate surrounding area. This can be taken to include places with direct connections to Derbyshire lines, such as Burton, Nottingham, Sheffield and Manchester, but only in relation to lines that reach those places from Derbyshire.
The whole of the Woodhead and the Erewash Valley lines are included, since it would not make sense to restrict discussion to just the Derbyshire sections. Also, by common consent of the founders, the county's western boundary has been extended to include the Leek and Manifold Light Railway.
This map (taken from Richard Fairhurst's New Adlestrop Railway Atlas http://www.systemed.net/atlas/) is available in the Photos section. It defines our area of interest, but does not include lines in the Manchester area or the Woodhead Route as they were not in the original atlas. (It should be noted that I have tried on a number of occasions to get Richard's permission to use this extract, but so far have not received a reply.)
Operational matters can be included, and so too can other forms of transport where relevant. However, this is primarily for discussion of the history of railways in Derbyshire.
