MR Stanton & Shipley branch

Thanks for that correction Dave. These are correct/additional closure dates for the sections north of West Hallam. 12.5.1966 Mapperley Jn - Mapperley Colliery; 26.8.1966 West Hallam - Shipley Colliery.

Does anyone have the date for Stanton Ironworks - West Hallam?

Ralph

Ralph,
Thanks for submitting the walk reports etc to the Derbyshire Railways group, I enjoy them a lot. I think that you've made an error on the above branch though as it was still open to the loading screens at West Hallam until at least the mid 1980's, it was then cut back to serve Stanton Ironworks (i.e. not in 1963). I remember well seeing class 44's at the screens and walking round rows of hoppers (most seemed to be labelled for Staythorpe). Later most trains that I saw seemed to be class 56 hauled. On the ex GN branch to Heanor there was a platelayers cabin surviving until very recently at least and I think that the footbridge at Mapperley was relatively intact into the 1980's. Hope the above is useful, Dave
