San Francisco, Philadelphia, Seattle among several other American cities have announced their intention to provide free WIFI for their constituants. Verizon in reaction has started a lawsuit against Philadelphia to prevent the free WIFI move. Five US states have already decided to ban their cities to provide WIFI.

Why all these decisions from the different parties? What is expected by City Halls, Telecom incumbents, service providers, technology providers, citizens. To talk about all these issues, Digital City Forum, an open networking group based in the Silicon Valley has been created to gather the different parties to debate all the issues behind these decisions. We will talk with and listen to decision makers involved in these decisions and try to capture what we should expect in the future in terms of services available in our towns in the next 10 years.

Other cities, around the world, have decided to make the move already and this forum will be also the place to learn what worked and what didn't with first hand experience of city officials, carriers, service providers or vendors.
