You probably don't want a V-belt, but a modern poly-V. The latter can be machined from aluminum bar stock - in fact the current (Jul/Aug) issue of Home Shop...

Dan, they are available from HPC Gears in the UK (they have an incredible range of stock stuff and will make to order) as well as belts, their standard ones...

$150!!! That's pretty steep! But if it's the center that's bad this becomes a more reasonable problem to tackle. I don't know whether welding is necessary....
