What I like about making the maps in Google Maps instead of earth is
that anyone can see them without having to install extra software.
http://www.elsewhere.org/journal/gmaptogpx/ has one method for
capturing tracks/routes/points from google maps.
If you have it in Google Earth, export it as a KML file.
GPS Visualizer (http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/convert_input) can
convert it to a GPX.
To create a map from your GPS data:
Collect your tracks and points.
Use whatever (I like Mapsource) to edit the map you want and export it
as a GPX file.
Go to GPS Visualizer and convert it to KML.
Open Google Maps, sign in to your account and go to My Maps.
Start a map and select import. That will do it.
Go in and tweak your notes and waypoint images.
Google Maps now lets you create your own waypoint images.
