Apologies again as I was not paying full attention! There is only ONE extra
120.1 to go across not 5 as I suggested! Whichever example goes across it will
be numbered 120206.

Per DSO forums it has been suggested that a further batch of 5 x Class 120.1s
are to leave Fernverkehr and move acrosss to DB Regio on the Hamburg - Rostock
corridor, identities of said locos was not mentioned.

In addition on 14th November, due to problems with the rostered pushing 120.1 or
maybe the Steuerwagen which was leading, IC391 was worked forward from
Geislingen to somewhere by 151006 which was one of the banker loks there and
there is a fine picture of the loco awaiting to leave Geislingen. I would
presume that the 151 worked to at least Ulm or maybe even Munchen!

Computer issues at present preclude me from copying a link to the sections,
apologies for this!

I picked up a French handout left in the cab by a colleague recently. In it are
listed the numbers of locos and units for the Lille area and the expected
delivery schedule for the Bibis over the next 18 months.

I'll quote it from the document

Parc envisagé au 13/12/2009
X 73500 = 10
X 76500 = 15
Z 24500 = 45 (+1 livrée en 01/2010)
Z 23500 = 33
Z 2N = 6
BB 25600 = 15 au 13/12/2009
BB 16500 = 9
BB 67400/300 = 15

Livraisons 30 B 82500 (Bibi)

3 en mars
1 en nov
2 en déc
3 en janvier 2011

Hope this makes sense to some of you. It looks pretty grim in the Lille area
after June 2011!

Two Dutch pressure groups, Foundations Stop Noise HSL and Hearing No, have
petitioned the Minister Eurlings that Traxx trains should not be allowed to take
the High Speed Line. The two groups claim that these trains are not suitable for
this route, because they make too much noise.

Minister Eurlings has now decided to adapt the trains (whatever that means!),
which should reduce the noise. But according to the two groups the trains should
never have been allowed to ride on the track.

If the trains keep running then legal action will follow, with compensation
claims submitted by the groups.

(Have resent this as original post a few days back seems not to have made it. so
sorry for delay)

Was in Tallinn during the last week in October and Kopli yard has certainly
seen better days but was not quite bleak as portrayed in Charles message.
Regular GE hauled freights departed the yard at 9.10 in the morning and 21.45 at
night. Didn't hang around during the day but there must have been balancing
workings too. The traffic is largely from the docks and coal is one of the main
commodoties.

Most of the customers in the docks appear to have there own locos. Of note was
the immaculate ChME3-3356.

Station pilots in Tallinn were ChME3-3491 and 7459. All there activity appeared
to be in about a 90 min slot in the morning to cover the Moscow sleeper. Am
guessing they are the only traffic to use the line linking Kopli and Tallinn
station.

The Moscow sleeper was TEP70 320 on 27/28 and 29 Oct and was TEP70 238 on the
30th.

Plenty of activity on the line to the docks at Muuga, mainly oil trains.
Trackwork at the junction station of Lagedi was causing some delays.

A few of the photos from the trip are at:

http://www.jonathancordle.fotopic.net/c1779252.html

Thoroughly recommend the GO Hotel Shnelli overlooking the station.

Travelled around by bike hired from citybike.ee (allyear round cycle hire
including spiked wheels for the winter!)

Cheers

A few days in Macedonia to get some steam heat 661 km's whipped in.  Main
objectives were to get last boilered 661 (236) and to score line to Kicevo.

Mon 09-11-09
Early flight 0650 LGW to Thessaloniki with dud G-EZEJ.  Despite late take off
due to fog, plenty of time in Thes before doing train into Macedonia (Thes to
Skopje rtn ticket €24.40 as previously reported by Gary Statford). Got off the
thro' train from Thessaloniki at Veles to get last Bitola-Skopje train forward,
guard was a bit confused when I presented Thes to Skopje ticket but was happy
enough when I explained I had broken my journey to go for a few beers, in
reality all I had done was get very wet walking to the town centre and back in
order to use a cash point, and then spent rest of time hanging around the dismal
station waiting for train, an hour late but was only train on Bitola line seen
all visit that was more than a few minutes behind schedule.

MOVES:
G EZEJ (EZ5093) 0650 LGW to Thes
120008 (334) 1704 Thes to Gevgelija
441506 (334) 1805 Gevgelija to Veles
661235 (4904) 2116 Veles to Skopje

Tue 10-11-09
Spent the whole day on Bitola line with 661235, out and back on morning trip
before meeting Anthony Flynn at Skopje who had arrived on a very long and
diverted/delayed bus from Bulgaria.  After we had eaten at Skopje plastic paddy
pub went back to Bitola and stayed night there.  Bitola is a very pleasant
place indeed and rather than opt for 0333 start next day we decided we'd get up
for the 1242.

MOVES:
661235 (4901) 0646 Skopje to Bitola
661235 (4902) 1242 Bitola to Skopje
661235 (4905) 1815 Skopje to Bitola

Also seen:
661236 (4900) 0333 Bitola to Skopje, (4903) 1430 Skopje to Bitola, (4904) 1843
Bitola to Skopje.

Wed 11-11-09
After a well needed lie in and leisurely 1000 breakfast made our way to station
via internet cafe and a bar.  At station I was told no photo's by second man on
661223 but after explanation of what we were up to he was happy enough to show
me around the cab, then we both had cab rides en route as well. Ate at the
plastic paddy again before last Skopje to Bitola as far as Caska where we had a
few beers in the pub near the station.  The owner was friendly but we couldn't
really communicate due to language barrier, all other customers were lads aged
about 15 to 25 who were a bit on the "chav" side.  When we left there were
about 15 customers in the place, all lad chavs and a solitary baglette.  Did
last Bitola to Skopje train back with winner 661236 (as expected having seen on
4903).

MOVES:
661223 (4902) 1242 Bitola to Skopje
661235 (4905) 1815 Skopje to Caska
661236 (4904) 2056 Caska to Skopje

Thu 12-11-09
Got up for the 0800 Skopje to Kicevo as the track was required and had a
pleasant run with 661223.  A nice line but saw a couple of shanty towns on the
way, a shame when modern apartment blocks were only feet away, especially when
seeing little kids living in such poor conditions.  Kicevo was nice enough,
passed the 2 hours in a couple of cafe bars before heading back to Skopje.  On
the way back I went to use the toilet at the back of the coach but found it
stacked up with live chickens in wire baskets, used the toilet at front of coach
instead (if the chicken toilet smelled anything like this one then its amazing
they survived!!). Train was bricked at Skopje Sever breaking outer window in
aisle next to our compo, luckily double layered unlike some others we had
seen.  Back at Skopje easily made +8 onto 1430 Bitola, and saw 661146 arrive
with train 393 30 mins late, presume worked from Tabonovci vice electric
(meaning at this time three trains at
Skopje all with 661s and all facing same way - quite rare I imagine!) Rather
than risk doing 1430 to Veles for crossing move onto 1242 ex Bitola got off one
station short at R.Zinzifov, as we had tickets to Veles the guard soon made sure
we knew what we were doing as the train was held, when we explained we wanted to
go back on the diesel he explained to us that the first train to cross would be
an electric (which was vice EMU on a late Veles local) and the second would be
the "Kennedy" - most helpful (the diesels had passed at Veles the last couple of
days but would have missed, the Bitola Skopje was pulling out both days before
the Skopje Bitola had stopped)  Also at the station were the towns population
of dogs who were giving us some grief when we tried to phot 661235, however a
guy with about 4 teeth shooed them away and had a bit of a bellow with us before
heading off on his donkey.  Back at Skopje 661146 was heading back to Tabanovci
with train
392, 1632 departure and Anthony did it as he was heading into Serbia.  I was
disappointed to flag it but was heading back to Thes for my flight home the next
day.  The train to Thes was wedged, in my compo amongst others was a guy who
said his name was Ricky who played trumpet and sang in Skopje clubs most nights
earning big money, drinking 10 whiskeys and taking a different woman home each
night, not bad as he was 65.  He give me a quick sample of the Tom Jones
numbers he sang, what a beast.  Once in Thes I checked into my hotel for the
night.

MOVES
661223 (6902) 0800 Skopje to Kicevo
661223 (6903) 1215 Kicevo to Skopje
661235 (4903) 1430 Skopje to R.Zinzifov
661236 (4902) 1534 R.Zinzifov to Skopje
442003 (337) 1715 Skopje to Gevgelija
120023 (337) 1955 Gevgelija to Thessaloniki

Fri 13-11-09
Just one move, winner plane G-EZFM on 1250 Thessaloniki to Gatwick.

CONCLUSION
excellent trip, both objectives achieved, may try a summer visit next time to
try and get some of the non boilered loco's.  Macedonia is a decent place where
the locals can be a bit curious but otherwise fine.  The steam heat was working
well, all trains nice and warm when boiler working but a few trains during
daylight hours were unheated as the weather was warm enough to justify not
whipping the boiler up.

TICKETS USED
Apart from Thessaloniki to Skopje rtn, purchased the following -
Skopje to Bitola return 335 MKD
Skopje to Bitola return 335 MKD
Skopje to Caska return 138 MKD
Skopje to Kicevo return 222 MKD
Skopje to Veles return 120 MKD
Total price 1210 MK (approx £18) so IROCP would be a bad investment for this
country!!

HOTELS USED
Skopje - Hotel Centar. About half way between station and Holiday Inn, 10 minute
walk, off the main road near the Olympic Swimming pool.  4600 MKD for twin room
including breakfast.    e.mail  hotelcentar@...

Bitola - Hotel Millenium Palace.  On main pedestrianised street about 15-20
mins walk from station (just past Hotel Epinal which quoted €80 for twin
including using pool and jaccuzzi!!).  Millenium was €66 for twin including
breakfast   website    www.milleniumpalace.com.mk

The situation from the timetable change is becoming clearer. Karlsruhe will
retain 218s 480, 481, 483, 484 and probably 478. They will resume their former 2
commuter turns between Kaiserslautern and Ludwigshafen BASF replacing class 628
which BASF were not happy with. One will be spare at Ludwigshafen, one for the
Karlsruhe SBahn and the other spare.

After failing at Freudenstadt, 218479 has been returned to Ulm for further
repairs, the problem being more serious than originally realised. On return to
traffic she is to be Ulm based. Kempten is likely to receive some/all of the
other allocation; 218141 was recently stored as her ticket has expired.

I can't recall this appearing on ERG, so apologies if it has, but all STR 218
turns on KBS474 are to finish, replaced by class 628. 218s 136, 137, 151, 217
are to be withdrawn. Emmelshausen, as is known, goes private kart. The turns
around Mainz remain, with STRs 218.4s transferred to Frankfurt Griesheim which
takes over the responsiblity.

nobody replies via the forum should you be interested.

All REPLIES must be directly to my work e-mail at Atos Origin as in my ERG group

As we are moving office next weekend and the recycling bins are full to
overflowing, my colleagues asked if anyone would be interested in some of the
old European Timetables/Fares Books and CIV manuals that we have in our
cupboards (we have a cupboard full of CIV books that I assume are of no
interest?)that are no longer needed, these date back to our major involvement
with IRS and the last versions that were sent to us by the railway authoritioes
were kept the previous ones were always disposed of.

I am not able to post anything but am happy for anybody who is ineterested to
collect early next week from Kings Cross between 0900-1730 or from Peterborough
as I commute up or down to London.

These are free they were going to be chucked out anyway and it saves us trying

Just had a quick look at Drehscheibe and in one of the Vorschau postings it is
showing that 180020 is booked to work the following tomorrow:

180 020 - 440, 171 Prag-Dresden-Prag; 174, 379 Prag-Dresden-Prag

Actual diagram as posted in CD Gen files is:

EN440 Praha hl.n to Ústí nad Labem hl.n 04.58 – 06.39
EC171 Dresden Hbf to Praha-Holešovice 09.10 – 11.18
EC174 Praha-Holešovice to Dresden Hbf 12.40 – 14.46
EC379 Dresden Hbf to Praha-Holešovice 17.10 – 19.18

Worth keeping an eye on these as Keith posted a CD 372 on this circuit recently.

A new tourist train is to starting running (hopefully) this month between Leon
and Bilbao, El Expreso de la Robla. It will run much in the same format as the
famous El Transcantabrico but targetting a market who haven't the time to spend
the whole week on the train.

When constructed, details should appear here:-

http://www.elexpresodelarobla.com/

Hi all,

A flying visit to Bremen with Ryanair - out on the Tuesday night and back
Thursday morning.

Arrived into Bremen - Hannover services (KBS380) in chaos due to the German
national football team's goalkeeper having thrown himself in front of the 14:40
Norddeich Mole to Hannover Hbf (RE4427).

Wednesday 11th November

101042 Bremen to Münster on the 06:32 Hamburg Altona to Chur.

101017 Münster to Rheine via Osnabrück High level and low level on the diverted
(all ICs booked this way until 22 November) 07:48 Koln Hbf to Norddeich Mole.

101041 Rheine to Osnabrück low level on the 08:49 Schiphol to Berlin Ost.

As I climbed the stairs to the high level - IC334 was passing through the
station having done the low level to high level curve - a train that I rejected
at Rheine.

101014 + 101113 (Top & Tail) Osnabrück to Hamburg Harburg on the 05:30 Nürnberg
to Hamburg Altona

The idea was to look for my last 3 Metronom 246s - 005, 009 and 010.

246004 - Harburg to Hbf on the 1310 ex Cuxhaven.
246005 - Hbf to Harburg on the 17:07 from Hbf
246010 - Harburg to Hbf on the 16:10 ex Cuxhaven
246009 - Hbf to Harburg on the 20:07 from Hbf

Job done ! More jam please

The other ones out were 006 (14:07 ex Hbf) and 003 (16:07 ex Hbf)

There are six per day out - they normally arrive at xx:58 at the Hbf and return
at xx:07/08 back to Cuxhaven. The exception to this is the 11:58 and 19:58
arrivals. The 11:58 arrival does the 20:07 and the 19:58 arrival goes to the
sidings. Easy to work out - look at the arrival and departure boards - if the
platform is different then the loco is. The trains lay over for 80 minutes at
Cuxhaven.

EMU to Altona

182517 - Hamburg Altona to Hbf on the 21:46 to München Ost (TALGO set).

120124 - Hamburg Hbf to Bremen Hbf on the 22:32 Hamburg Altona to Frankfurt.

Hopefully of use to someone

Whilst neither Paul or myself have got around to typing up the CD notes from our
trip last week, a couple of things that were notable from Saturday 07/11 were

750 410 worked the Decin-Bad Schandau shuttles, we did the 1701 from Decin, I
was suitably whithered when stood on the Dresden bound platform a few minutes
after arrival at Bad Schandau and 372 014 arrived on EC379 the 1710
Dresden-Praha part of that diagram, that is the first time I have personally
seen a 372 on these 371 diagrams.

Whilst I appreciate we don't make a point of answering questions via the forum
postings, I can confirm that EN456/457 are booked a 371 to and from Berlin which
hopefully clears up an earlier query with regard to a CLASS sighting at Berlin.

I was also in Berlin over the weekend with friends. We thought the 115 on the
Kiev was 459 but as we were on the way out of the front door en route to the
Brandenburg Tor at the time , we couldn't be certain.

Other things noted of interest were PKP EU43-001 on Seddin depot on Saturday
morning and on Monday afternoon the 0649 ex Schipol (IC 141 ) was hauled by 120
103 rather than the usual 101.

The TER-SNCF website has been give a makeover. All the regiosn appear to no
follwo the same standard.

Once into your region, there is a big 'In one Clic' box in the top left which
offers the choice of 'search for [point to point] itinerary', 'Fiches Horaires'
and 'Products and prices'.

Clicking on Fiches Horaires takes you to the next screen where everything has
been collected together in a vertical menu on the left hand margin, with the
main screen asking you to input the name of a station.

That's all very well, but - testing the Rhone Alps site - half the stations I
input are not there, so hard luck unless you already know your network.

The option is still available to click on the regional map, but again some
stations are not loaded (at least on Rhone-Alpes).
