Business Computing Tips

By K&K Fainges kfainges@...

Sometimes while browsing, you see a great pic. How do you use them on
your website?

First, ask permission. Copyright counts on the internet. Most people
will say yes, especially if you add a link to their site. It's not
only good manners to ask, it's the law.

To reuse a pic, you have two choices, you can link your site to
theirs, or you can save the pic to your hard drive, then up load it to
the web again as part of your site.

For the long term, the second option is better, even if it does mean
using save up on your server. It means that you still have the pic if
they decide to close or move that site.

To save to your hard drive, most pics will allow you to right click on
them, and then left click on 'Save Image As'. Make sure you put it
somewhere you can find it again.

Now to put it on your site. If you are using an offline editor, say
Word, FrontPage or Dreamweaver, all you need to do is click on INSERT
then PICTURE or IMAGE then FROM FILE.

When you then upload the site, make sure you upload both the page and
the pic or it won't work.

If you are using a web-based webpage builder, most will have a File
manager or Upload wizard. That will get the pic from your computer to
the internet. Then you can add the image to the page through their
HTML or build a page wizard.
