Auto Correct

Business Computing Tips
By K&K Fainges kfainges@...

A very handy tool is auto correct. Found in most Microsoft Office
products, it does just what the name suggests.

The default sets up some standard changes, capitalising the starts of
sentences, taking off caps lock if you put it on by mistake, all very
valuable stuff, but it can be used for so much more.

Once I used it for a client with a restaurant. He had a menu set up
where the items changed for each day & price, but they were always
from the same list. Rather than typing out the items over and over
again, I set up each item under a code. Then he could just type l1
for lunch menu item one, and the whole rather delicious item would
get pasted in without typing it out.

To set that up, open up the auto correct by going to the menu items
Tools, Auto correct, and then type the code first in the 'replace'
box, then the long bit you want to replace in the 'with' box. Try
putting in a short form of your company name that can be replaced
automatically with the full name ™ and everything. Or a list of
your
most common products for your invoice. The formatting can be set to be
the same as the document, (plain text) or formatted to be exactly the
same colour font etc. every time.

Please feel free to pass it on to your friends, just let them know I
wrote it.
