Fundamental analysis in the forex market is often very complex, and is usually used only to predict long-term trends. However, some traders do trade short term strictly on news releases as well as several meetings from which come quotes and commentary that can affect markets just as much as any report. These meetings are often called to discuss interest rates, inflation, and other issues that affect currency valuations and allow short-term traders to profit from extraordinary happenings. Egs include non-farm payroll, retail sales, FOMC meetings etc.

Note : Price gap spreads happen during a news announcement and varies with individual brokers. Placing a stop loss presents a signal to brokers with dealing desks or counter programs which will result in the gap widening further to close your trades at a LOSS but a GAIN to the brokers. So take care when placing your Stop Loss and Price Spreads. Eg : the price spread of AUDUSD over the Bank of Canada¡¯s interest rate release which maintained the interest rate on 10 June 2008 0900 ET created a 44 pips spread.
