Rick,

The invitation looks good, but shouldn't "conveyance" be "convenience"?

I am not believing I did that and did  not catch it. (and I used my spell checker too...LOL).
Thanks for the correction but it's too late now, might as well just bite the bullet.

Sir Knights all,
Just a reminder that the St. Mountain Highland games are just around the corner. They are Friday, Saturday and Sunday the 19th thru the 21st of October, 2007. I have purchased a sponsorship for the Ga. Clan ROS and have plans on being there and hope to see some of you there that can make it. Sir Knight Bruce will have a Booth at the games and has invited the Clan to come by and visit him. (to those that may want to know, the sponsorship was purchased out of my pocket not from Clan funds... just to clarify to any who may ask)

I hope all have received their newsletter and Banquet invitation by this time and are making plans on attending the Banquet this year. I have two reversations confirmed , money in hand, as we speak. Sir Knight Ralph Chandler and myself. Please Sir Knights RSVP so we will know how many meals to prepare. The room that Sir Knight Kerry has reserved is big enough to accomodate 50 people, so if more are coming we need to know in time to call and get a larger room.

This Year's Banquet will be in 'Memory of" our President, Sir Knight Kerry Buchan, and I am in hopes that Lady Marquarite will be present for this event. Sir Knight Gary Lemmons will have a Memorial Resolution that he will read at the Banquet.

I hope to see all of you there this year

Update on Past Potentate Ray Lange,
For those of you that do not know, Ray and Bonna Lange had a wreck , thier motorhome blew a tire and caused them to wreck, Bonna was  hurt the worst and was put in the Hospital in Mobile, Alabama. Her elbow and pelvis was fratured. Bonna is being released today from the hospital in Mobile and their daughter is going to pick them up in her Tahoe so that Bonna will have plenty of room.  She has a pin in her elbow where she had some reconstructive surgery.  She will also be off of her feet for 6-8 weeks so that her fractured pelvis will have time to heal.  They are both in good spirits and are ready to be at home.
Please keep Bonna and Ray in your prayers

Sir Knights all,
I hope by now that you have received your newsletter and invitation to our Annual Banquet that will be held in Savannah on the 2nd of December.
I have had only two responses to the RSVP on the invitation as of today. I do so hope that the responses start coming in soon and we have a full Banquet this year.
My many thanks to Past Presidents Bobby Simmons and Kenny White for their leadership and the fine Banquets that we had with them. All present had a great time and some fun with Sir Knight Gary Lemmons installation ritual.
Again, this years Banquet will be in Memory of Sir Knight Kerry Buchan and I would like to have a crowd present for this event.
May God Bless each and everyone of you

Sir Knights all,
I just received email from Brother Robert L. D. Cooper, the curator of the Grand Lodge of Scotland, informing me that the Grand Lodge of Scotland web site has now been completely revamped. The URL remains the same:  http://www.grandlodgescotland.com/  but the style, layout and content has changed considerably. There are a number of new features including a Press Watch page and a Members Services area where you can download more specialist items. Registration is required to access this part of the web site.
check out the new site and while your there register, it's free.

I will get my reservation (check) in the mail for 3 next week.  It’s really hard to think about a December banquet on Labor Day Weekend.  Don’t forget the Clan has agreed to pay for the piper’s meal

All Sir Knights,
Here is a good website about Rosslyn Chapel. Check it out when you have time.
Masonic History is a fantastic subject if you take the time to sit down and study it.
This is just one aspect of our great Fraternity.

Rosslyn Chapel is just one survivor of the rich past of Freemasonry.
One of the carvings shows a Templar leading a Mason to the alter for
his obligations.
I believe that the real heart of our studies is in our bueatiful rituals, but I
must confess, that for me reflection sometimes on the material history gets
in the way of memorizing the words in detail. So I keep working on it.
Learn the answers to the Catechisms my Brothers and like Brother Ernest
Borgnine tell us we should also memorize the questions. This logic is sound
advice, "if you only know the answers, you only have half the material."
There is always more and more of it to memorize. It is much like when you
read the Bible. You read it again, and again, and keep finding more things to reflect on.

Yours Aye
Rick Conn

Sir Knights all,
I hope all has had the opportunity to check out our new website. It is still in the construction stage, but Sir Knight Richard Gibson has done a superb job in putting it all together. I have just given him a couple more links to add for places to, not only purchase Kilts, but to find your own Tartan or Tartans you can wear. You can even buy 'Tews' (pants) in Tartan if you perfer not to wear Kilts.
Go and check it out, and if you have any ideas or suggestions, email me.
Thanks again, Sir Richard for a job well done.

Sir Knights, as of now, I have received 18 paid reservations for our Annual Banquet on the 1st of December in Savannah. I do hope that more of you are planning on coming. Please let me know as soon as you can. The room we have reserved will only hold 50 people and if we are going to have more than 50 the room will have to be changed, but it will take a few days notice to get it all handled.
I have right now 12 people who have emailed me and told me they are coming, (but have received no monies at present) so our total is 30 if all send in their reservations. We now have, after the July 2007 ROS Class, 72 members of our Clan. This is a good growth and I hope it will continue to grow and to include maybe a spring picnic and maybe even a booth sponsored in one of the Celtic Games Events in the State during the year.
Speaking of Games, don't forget the St. Mountain Highland Games coming up on the 19th-20th-&-21st of this month. One of our members , Sir Robert Bruce, will have a booth at the games and has invited us by to fellowship with him. The festivities will begin on Friday with the Whiskey Tasting Seminar at 3:00 pm and the Invitational Bagpiping Competition at 5:30 pm (at the Hilton Atlanta Northeast).
At Stone Mountain Park, Saturday morning at 9:00 am the "Games" will begin till 5:00 pm and back to the Hilton Atlanta at 8:00 pm for the Scottish Music Festival.
Back to Stone Mountain on Sunday morning at 9:00 am for the Games and Festivities till 5:00 pm that afternoon.
Hope to see some of you there.

Sir Knights all,
I would like to make one correction in that last information email I sent. It is not Robert Bruce's Tent at St. Mountain, It is actually the Bruce Family Tent. Our member is “Thomas Allen Bruce,” not “Robert Bruce.”  (sometimes when I hear the name Bruce, Robert just comes out, always thinking of 'Robert the Bruce'.) Sir Allen informs me that all of the members and officers at the Tent, know about the Royal Order of Scotland, and will welcome our members.
In case some don't know, the Chief of the Family of Bruce is also the Deputy Grand Master and Governor of the Royal Order of Scotland worldwide.
The Chief is Sir Andrew Bruce, The Earl of Elgin and Kincardine, Knight of the Thistle.
and our member, Sir Thomas Allen Bruce, is the Lieutenant to the Chief.

Thanks

Yours Aye

Sir Knights all,
I have just returned from the Highland Games at Stone Mountain Park. Those that did not attend missed a great time. (Also a chance to get you a Kilt , made in Scotland, at cut rate prices)
The games were exciting and interesting, the fellowship there also was a delight. Meeting old friends and making new ones, some from accross the big pond.
I want to thank Sir Knight Allen Bruce for the Hospitality he extended at the Bruce Family Tent. (and also for the wee dram of refreshment) And thanks to the ones from our Clan that stopped by to say Hello to him. Sir Knight Allen has some interesting stories that I may relate to all in one of our Newsletters in the future. Thanks again Sir Knight Allen, it was a pleasure to stop by and visit with you.
Well the games are over for this year, but I am already planning on attending next year. At the genelogy class on Friday morning I found out that the Conn family not only has family ties to Clan MacDonald, but also to Clan Hay.
I am looking forward to seeing all at the Banquet in Savannah in December. I spoke with Sir Knight Thomas Bruce's daughter and she informed me the Sir Knight Thomas Bruce has not been feeling well , as he has had a stroke, but he is planning on attending our Banquet if at all possible. It was indeed a pleasure to have him at last years Banquet, so let's keep  him in our prayers for a speedy recovery so he may attend again this year.
The Banquet is getting closer and those that are coming and have not RSVP'd need to email me as soon as possible, so I can get a head count for the meal.
Thanks to all for the honor of serving as  your Secretary/Treasurer, it has been a pleasure and the friendships made are an everlasting blessing to me. I hope to continue for a long time to come.
May God Bless each and every one
Till December
I remain
Fraternally at  your service,

Rick Conn

I’m not positive about this, but I am sure that I read that Walter Reed will no longer accept cards etc that are addressed like this.  They must be addressed to a specific service member.

To correct that last email I sent out about the Christmas Cards to Walter Reed Hospital. I have just spoken with John Cole at Walter Reed on the phone. He informed me that if you send the cards to the Hospital they will not (WILL NOT) be delivered, but thrown away.
John informed me that you must have a point of contact for the letters and if you have a group to send them all in one single envelope. If you have a group you can gather all of them, place in a single large envelope or box , or if it is just you are going to send one here is the method that is suggested.
Send them to the following address;

The American Red Cross
c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue, NW
Washington, D. C.        20307-5001

inside add note to inform them that it is for the 'Recovering American Soldiers' in the hospital , please distribute.

Due to all the problems with the mail the past few years, letter bombs, etc. Walter Reed will not accept any letter until it has been opened and inspected. So when they receive cards addressed as "A Recovering Soldier" they will just throw them away.

I had so many people send that last email to me , I just sent it out without calling and checking on it. You can still send the cards, but sent it to the Red Cross at the Hospital instead of just to the Hospital.
thanks to all

Rick Conn
