Subject: [DC-HispNtwk] (Internship) Public Relations Assistant – Paid Summer Internship





Overview: Since 1998, Edu-Futuro (Educación Para Nuestro Futuro) has empowered Latino children, youth, and families through education and leadership development to succeed and contribute to their community, while teaching others about Latin American cultures. Programs include the Escuela Bolivia Program, which offers Spanish academic enrichment classes for children; the Emerging Leaders Program, which is a youth leadership and college prep program; and the Parent Leadership Initiative, which develops Latino parents' leadership and knowledge about the US school system.

Position Summary: We seek a Public Relations Assistant to support our community engagement and promotional activities. The intern will be an integral part of our team and can look forward to promoting his/her leadership at a grassroots nonprofit. This position will report to our Executive Director. Edu-Futuro is located by the Clarendon metro in Arlington, Virginia.

Responsibilities
Conduct community outreach by attending events, distributing flyers and information, and communicating with program participants and potential participants.
   Capture and share the stories of our students, mentors, families, and volunteers using video, pictures, and interviews to post on our website, social media sites, and YouTube channel.
        Support the implementation of a community service project for our Emerging Leaders Program.
    Create an online group for our network of Latino high school students and mentors to share information on college, scholarships, service opportunities, and community events.
  Create publicity materials in English and Spanish, and maintain website and databases.
Other duties as assigned.

      A $2,750 stipend provided by the ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program (CSJP).

      Experience with a grassroots nonprofit supporting Latinos' educational and leadership pursuits.

Qualifications
  University-level student who has completed at least 24 credit hours and is studying communications, public relations, or related field.
        Fluent or advanced Spanish language skills, both written and spoken.
   Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
   Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
   Strong attention to detail, outstanding organizational skills, and multi-tasking ability.
      Self-motivated, reliable, and energetic with a strong capacity for team work.
  Experience working with linguistically and culturally diverse populations.
     Familiarity with photography, video, websites, databases, and social media a plus.
     International students must be eligible to work in the US.
     Available from June 4 through July 27, 2012, and can attend ExxonMobil CSJP mandatory events that will be held on June 5th and June 21st. A third event will be scheduled for the week of June 25th.
