Dear Mary
What I like:
* clean lines
* straightforward design
What I don't like:
* the color scheme may turn off some clients (yes - I know you're
marketing to women, but as a business-life coaching site, I expect a more
professional, serious image)
* design is a little too simplistic
* Page is too wide - I am at 1152 x 864 and I had to scroll
left-to-right to read all the stuff (including the about you section) which
were hanging off the right side. While the current standard is a bit
nebulous, generally agreement is to limit your page width to about 900-960
pixels wide. This limits the really annoying back and forth scrolling or
having people ignore a whole edge strip of your site. If you are planning
on allowing for ads, I would cut that down to about 800 pixels wide.
* Too! Many! Exclamation! Points! In the How Can I Help section.
* Not enough graphics
* You need a much better (read: professional looking) image of YOU on
the page. Your current image may only be a placeholder, but it does not do
you or your services justice
* On the FAQ section, you talk about the professional accreditation
standard, but don't directly say that YOU are accredited - and the benefits
to the potential client of hiring an accredited coach.
* Your free coaching offer (over on the right) is getting dropped off
the page - and relegated to too narrow a slice making it hard to read. I
would give them a taste and then have them click over to a separate landing
page where you have the space to really sell them. A separate landing page
would also give you a good place to direct potential clients to when you are
commenting on blogs or forums and want to promote your services.
* Your home page is way too long. Try to keep your important
information "above the fold" so that if people don't scroll down, they won't
miss important information. It's okay to have longer pages; people will
scroll down if they are engaged. But don't lose the ones who don't.
Suggestions: I noticed that you have a Wordpress blog. You should have a
seamless transition between the sites in terms of look and feel. Get a
template/theme that you can use for both (or consolidate everything onto
Wordpress; it will probably do what you want to do).
I noticed that you're in Worcester. I am just outside Boston. Great to
help another Massachusetts woman!
A web site is a work in progress. Take or leave these very individual
impressions. Good luck with your business launch.
