Hi, Susan, do you know about the OD-Net coach list? You can find it at http://www.odnetwork.org/listsinfo/odnet-coach.info.html

Yahoo Groups also has two lists I'm aware of:

Hi everyone :)

I'm looking for other coaching lists besides my own to advertise the
chats I host on AOL. My list is Coaching Zone.

If anyone knows of any lists that could reach a large coaching
audience besides the Coaching Scoop please let me know.

Thanks!

Oh yes, the old time problem! Take a look at my article "Managing the Time You Haven't Got" at http://www.koit.com/koit/cj_hayden.cfm#managing
and see if it gives you any new ideas.

Anyone else have suggestions on how to find time for marketing?

Susan - I am finally getting caught up on my emails.  Welcome aboard getclientsnow!  congrats on getting certified.   I recently passed the certification CTI exam and presently in the Co-Active Space Leadership program.

I am very interested in learning more about creating a website for my coaching practice.

C.J. and all -

I'm a beginning coach who recently completed training at ACT. I have
a few clients, but I'm "hampered" by a full-time job. I actually get
to do some coaching on the job and will be heading up an effort to
develop an internal peer-coaching cadre. The "hampered" part is that
there's no strongly felt "need" to develop an external clientelle.
And yet that's what I want. Hmm. Maybe I should talk to a coach about
that! :)

I went through the book and the workbook and developed an extensive
plan, but that's as far as I went with it. I'm actually quite good at
planning. Hmm. Maybe I should talk to my coach about that, too! :)

Hi, Randy Ray, you've asked some good questions. What constitutes a full practice will vary, of course, from profession to profession, but there are some established benchmarks.

The Institute of Management Consultants estimates that 20-25 billable hours per week would be a full practice for most consultants. This might be working with as few as one or two clients.

Most personal/professional coaches consider 20-25 clients at an average of two hours per month to be a full practice. I've found 24 to be the right number for me.

Tracking the effectiveness of marketing strategies is an important part of marketing that many people leave out. What will give you the most information over time is if you actually attach dollar figures to each source of business. A client who works with you for a year is much more valuable than one who stays for three months and leaves, so the marketing strategy that brought you that one-year client is a better strategy.

Using that sort of measurement, I have found that my best marketing strategies have been following up with people over extended periods of time, encouraging referrals from former clients and professional colleagues, teaching classes (as opposed to one-time speaking engagements), and writing a book. There is also a "halo effect" from doing the amount of speaking and writing I do that causes clients to sometimes not be sure where they heard of me, but the best clients come from the specific strategies I mention above.

How about others on this list? What's your experience with a full practice and effective marketing strategies?

hi, everybody-

i'm a new member of the group--loved the book, and
i'm looking forward to some interesting discussions.

i'd be particularly interested in hearing how many
members of the 45 person group have "full practices",
and i'd be interested in hearing what the different
members of the group consider a full practice to be.

i'd also like to hear which strategies are most
effective in actual client acquisition--i.e.--
public speaking gets me 1 client a week for an
hour's worth of work--my ezine results in 1 client
a month for another two hours' of work, etc.

would anyone like to share some info with me?  i'll
look forward to your comments!

I am new to the sales and marketing strategic arena. I am
responsible for postistioning our services in an already very
saturated IT service industry. Our company is a start up, so we do
now have funding for large ad campaigns, brouchures and the
traditional telemarketing or direct mail tactics.

I am sending emails out to specific national PR, Advertsing, Mark
Communications firms by using the contact info on their website,
which is usually generic, that may utilize our services, web hosting,
web design, and database and software development.

I have an inital presentation that I use for interested prospects. I
have sent out 250 emails and received 10 responses. I am interested
in obtaining more responses and hopefully some actual customers. My
pricing low -with the idea that I could hopefully spur some
business.

This is all new to me as I never had total responsibility for Service

I would appreciate any feedback that anyone has and will provide more

Hello, readers! I have heard from many of you that you plan to attend the International Coach Federation Conference in Vancouver, Canada, next week. I'll be there, too, and would love to have the opportunity to meet you in person.

Look for me in the exhibit hall during the breaks. I'll probably be hovering near the Coaches Training Institute booth. Check out my photo at http://www.getclientsnow.com/cj.htm so you know who you're looking for.

See you in Vancouver!

Welcome, Ann. Thanks for letting us know what you are up to. Anyone else care to share his/her marketing niche, and tell the group how we can support you?

Regards,
C.J.

P.S. I'll be on vacation until Mon. 9/11. Talk to you all when I get back!
