The NS still has trackage rights between Chicago and Gibson City. They have 2
manifests, 317 (southward)and 318 (northward)that run daily as well as other
trains as needed.

Wrecking crews started to demolish IC Corwith tower today. Earlier a
large crane was cherry picking through the roof of the tower. Maybe some
group saved the machinery out of Corwith? At 1PM wrecking crews started
to work on the roof area. If anyone wants one last look, best get over
there early tomorrow morning before it is gone.

Hello all,

I need photos of the Indiana Railroad (INRD) to help illustrate an article by
retired IC Corporate Counsel John Doerringer on the sale and start-up of this IC
spinoff in an upcoming issue of the ICRHA Mid-American.

Photos can be from the IC/ICG era, or the INRD.  Primarily interested in shots
on the old IC portion of the line as opposed to later line additions.  Late ICG
era/early INRD era shots particularly welcome, but will consider all
submissions.

Please contact me off-list at unitlne@... if you are interested in
contributing.  Contributors whose work sees print will receive a comp copy of
the issue in question when it runs.  Also, if anyone could forward this to the
INRD Yahoo group, I would appreciate it.

Thank you!

These two units ("Janesville & Southeastern" BL2 52 once owned by Glenn
Monhart and BAR 56) were at the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay
and apparently are routed CN-ESTL-UP to Lordsburg, NM. AZER is owned
by the fan-friendly Iowa Pacific Holdings, which also runs the
passenger service on the San Luis & Rio Grande and is trying to revive
the Rio Grande Ski Train operation. Others have speculated these units
will end up on one of these passenger services.

This booster 1302 in Deathstar black is a big suprise to me also. Like
seeing an ex-GM&O GP30 (2250) in IC black. The booster 1302 was sold to NRE
in 11/89. The cab 1302 was sold to P&L in 8/86 along with several other
SW13's.

The "new" IC went crazy in 1988 repainting all active locos in Deathstar
black. By 1990 it was rare to see an active orange-white (or orange-gray)
locomotive pulling a train.

Tuscola is a decent spot but you need to be there in the morning (before 10 AM)
and then again in the evening (5 PM and later). With the short daylight hours of
late fall and winter and switch back to standard time, a lot of the trains pass
through town in the dark.

UP's North/South Corridor goes through Tuscola. It splits about 40 miles south
of Tuscola at Findlay into the Pana Sub to St. Louis and (I think the Salem, IL
Sub) to Texas. There is something like 35-40 daily trains on the UP, 2 on the
CSX, 6 Amtraks, and whatever CN runs. Most late mornings to afternoons are slow
with a couple of Amtraks and a few UP trains.

If you go, do be cautious of CN detectives/police near the old tower site as a
friend of mine had an unpleasant experience and he wasn't on the tracks.

Happy railfanning,
Joe

The UP still runs decent. CN you may get some action just depends. Amtrak you
