Hi IHers,

Whats the best way to get to Bangalore International Airport while coming in on
NH4 from Tumkur side. I might be driving and reach at night (past 11 pm). So
looking for the "safer" route.

I know of the three options:

1)Tumkur-Dabbaspete-NH207-Bellary Road (turn south here on NH7) - BIAL.

2)Tumkur-Nelamangla-Dodballapur-NH7-BIAL.

3)Tumkur-Nelamangla-Goraguntepalya-Outer Ring Road-Hebbal-NH7-BIAL.

Does anyone know which one is the safest option?

Option-1 is best from all aspects.

Gentlemen,
I plan to drive to Talcher town on my way to Satkosia from my home in Calcutta.
And I have decided to go via NH5, as it is a divided four lane road. From what I
see in Google map, I have three road options to choose from.

1. I may reach a place named Panikoili (in Jajpur district of Orissa), where I
turn right to reach Jajpur-Keonjhar Road railway station. Right afterward the
state highway number 20 on my left will take me up to a place known as Duburi
Chawk, where I get NH200 to reach Talcher.

2. Or I may reach Chandikhol Chowk on NH5 to turn right on NH200, although the
distance will be slightly more here than the route mentioned above.

3. Or I may drive almost up to Cuttack to reach Manguli. From there NH 42 via
Dhenkanal reaches a place called Banarpal Square (shortly before Angul), where
NH 23 originates to lead me to Talcher.

Which route shall I take? I give priority to the condition of the roads, as I
plan to be the only driver and bad road surfaces may make the drive more
tiresome. Anyone who has been in these areas in recent times is earnestly
requested to share his views.
Regards,
Rahul Biswas

Hi,
Option 3, without a doubt.

Many years back, I tried option 1. Bad mistake. After that always used
Cuttack - NH42. It would be nice if any IHer has recent knowledge of the
other options.

I also think there are safety issues in Route 1.

I did calicut Sultan battery, Manandavady HD Kote Hunsur mysore and it was the
worst experience of my  life. You can risk it at day but not at night at any
cost.

I had to take that route as the madhumalai sanctuary gate closed at 9 pm and we
had to reach Bangalore in the morning at any cost.

Thanks. Could you please elaborate further on the 'worst experience'. Was it the

I want to go from Chennai to Vaitheeswaran Koil to bangalore in one day. I
propose to start at about 5 Am and reach V Koil by about 11:30 and then form
there to bangalore.

What si the best route to take from Vaitheeswaran Koil to bangalore, Good roads
are important.

Advice would be appreciated.

Shortest route may be to go from Vaitheeswaran back to Chidambaram, then
intersect NH45 via Vridhachalam near Ulundurpet and go on the
Kallakurichi-Athur-Salem route. However, the Kallakurichi town bypass is
incomplete and the rest of the road is still being 4-laned to Salem.
Nonetheless, it is a decent road that can be taken by day. From Salem, it is
super fast NH7 back to Bangalore.

The other alternative is to go from Chidamabaram toPanruti, intersect NH45
and g on towards Tirukoyilur & Tiruvannamalai (narrow roads). From T'Malai,
because of the sad state of NH66 (to Krishnagiri), take the longer route to
Vellore and then via Krishnagiri to Bnagalore.

I believe Bavali is on the Handpost-Kattikulam road. My query is about the
Handpost-Hunsur stretch.

We had to do a detour as the Bavali Forest gate was also closed at night.

Your best bet is to go via Mysore. Other options are:

a) Nagarhole - Kutta - Mananthawady - Kalpetta - Gundlupet - Bandipur -
Mudumalai: Too roundabout with lots of bad roads

b) Nagarhole - HD Kote - Sargur - Begur - Gundlupet - Bandipur - Mudumalai:
Interior roads with bad stretches

Cheers
Rahul

A generous frnd lent me his Electra during my recent trip to Calcutta,
and I took it to Santiniketan and Sainthia from Calcutta.
The road conditions between calcutta and burdwan are awesome (part of
GQ), and even the road after the right turn from burdwan towards Guskara
is pretty decent. However, between Guskara and Bolpur (Santiniketan),
the road is still being made and you can't do speeds of more than 50
kmph. The road from Bolpur to Sainthia, although only 42 kms, takes
about 70 minutes because of the conditions. However, the beauty all
around makes up for the bad roads...

there are shortcuts that no gps will tell you about, and I was glad I
can speak Bengali at times. At times I spoke to people in Hindi just to
check out and they were always helpful and could manage Hindi as well.
