"I do not mean to exclude altogether the idea of patriotism. I know
it exists, and I know it has done much in the present contest. But
I will venture to assert that a great and lasting war can never be
supported on this principle alone. It must be aided by a prospect of
interest, or some reward."
-George Washington
In Madonna's serendipitious song 'Holiday' Madonna sang the world a
holiday, a celebration of good times to make things better that
serves well as an expression as well as in conduct.
Policy makers and justices are full well aware of the distinct
differences between the two in voting for or against a particular
conduct of the populous such as the act of desecrating the flag, the
red, white and blue...
It is not always that you hear a senator's question grace the floor
of the Senate that doesn't concern policy making but it was a day
that a senator queried the president as to what a soldier from his
state died for. This was a moment a senator chose to honor a fallen
soldier who had made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation & the
freedom of everybody.
The condition of being free, of independence(Oxford definition) the
principles embodied by our constitution espoused by and for a 'new
government' that withstood 200 years.
"What we do in life, echoes in eternity!" Maximus(Rome's Greatest
General)- Gladiator
200 years is a long time by any human standard. Great civilizations
and ideologies have lasted longer. Yet other designs evolve over even
longer and there are those that are universally eternal.
But just there are older designs, there're younger ones too. Like the
idea of patriotism, designs especially in capitalism and free market
systems can be found to have that associative rewards, the prospect
of interest. So does the 'invisible hand' of Mr. Adam Smith. These
interests or such rewards may vary greatly for different systems but
they're none the less rewards, that generic name.
The ideology of the way Wal-Mart conducts business is nothing new. It
just found itself by circumstance 'caused by elements of
globalisation an opportunity to apply and introduce vertically
integrated retailing in its' own space. Old, heavy industries have
long operated on these designs. However, unlike perfect competition
models, working in an imperfect competitive environment VI hasn't
survived the post-war era in the film industry. Though it has
experienced a renaissance of sorts since the 70's, constantly
evolving, increasingly if not horizontally structured has lately
experienced a softness in box office ticket sales. Here the answer to
this problem that has perplexed many until today is very simple if
one looks through the lense of capitalism, a lense with which it was
created with. Capitalism is a ever growing design that needs new
markets. It has an inherent need if you'll allow me the crave for
expansionism. There's even a very plausible argument that the inorder
for such a phenomenon to occur (expansionism), there's a need for a
military component coupled to it, giving birth to the idea, concept
of a superpower... the raison detre of Eisenhower's 'military-
industralized' complex. Capitalism has been and will always be about
that generic term, the product. Whose interests is it to produce it
and what are the rewards, may it be price incurred to facilitate its'
exchange or the return on investment or wages that end up being paid
to the consumer and accounted for as costs for the producer. The
answer to what's plaguing movie ticket sales is that what's always
needed yet often forgotten in capitalism... the component of
innovation. The advent of the internet probably saved the world's
greatest superpower from a much severe recession. Producing movies
based on past hits isn't a sure fire formula for excellent growing
performance. As they say past results is no gurantee for future
performance. The maestros of capitalism, design and films should
always know that. Complacency maybe the culprit in this case.

Conduct & expression, the imperfection of markets... 'Of perfection'
as it was written on the advertisement that road that diverges in the
desert. This is a story, that revolves around Mr. John Anderton and
just as much too about a "perfect" system. A system
called 'Precrime.' However, in this story Mr. Anderton finds
himself at the end of an undesired consequence of such a system.
A "perfect" system created in the 21st century... not far from the
year 2037, the century that heralds the discovery truimphs of a
certain mechanical nanodevice. (*Nanotechnology may even aid in the
development in sophisticated sensors) But in all reality, the system
as an overzealous Mr. Witver searched for and Johnathan eventually
learnt, was imperfect.
"I realised we're all part of it, and all trapped by it..."
Inspector Eric Finch-V for Vendetta
We're all captured by this ever increasing global net of free
markets. The conglomerate of individual countries that make up the
free world... and imperfections do exist, disputes arise when the
presumption of free trade is fair is violated, theft of intellectual
property and political upheavals occur, inefficiencies propagate and
undesired consequences arise such crime, corruption, the disparity of
wealth or the deterioration of wages. Understanding the problem is
just as important as finding the answer. When the board and playing
field is as wide and global as the world, the problem is often
multifaceted, complex if not in constant flux with interdependent
elements of a much larger system. (**) In addition, there rarely is
that single quick remedial panacea that policy makers or state
representatives alike have a tendancy to seek. It might be hard to
believe but we may have benefited more from the trade imbalance with
China than we might have lead ourselves especially policy makers to
believe. It has to be understood the 'Open Door' policies initiated
by Deng Xiaopeng may've been the result of successful efforts of
western capitalists in their encouragement of China's willingness to
trade while realizing the true benefits of a somewhat "free market
oriented" China(still considered a command & control system) to its'
ever expanding need for growth(of its' western counterparts).
Expansionism is the underlying force of western capitalism to a great
extent. Applying the protectionism panacea of policy makers on trade
with China could in all likelihood induce a much slower growth rate
that whats needed triggering a recession to some degree in weaker
economies it not stronger ones. Statistical data of current account
balances and the continuation of growth we've experienced in our
economy especially in the last decade have proven that trade with
China has been a great benefit to our continued growth. The solution
here which i confident believe the policy makers will see here like
the many possibilities available for a piece to move across a
chessboard, the key is to finding that optimal square that provides
the greatest vantage, without compromising the strength of other
existing resources to secure the highest probability of victory.
In closing, we should remember that soldier, that a Senator honored,
he not only died us all, so that we maybe free. He died for our real
independence, Senator, our tranquility at home, our peace abroad; our
safety; our prosperity; our very liberty which you so highly prize.
(George Washington)
May you have a happy Independence Day and may all your endeavors lead
you to prosperity.

and smartest) the likes the world has never seen that will test the
