I moved my domains to Google Apps some time ago and am completely satisfied.
You would just update ZoneEdit (I also use them) to point to Google, and use
Google for both incoming and outgoing.

My mail set-up has became way too complicated and I am looking for help to make
it more simple - and more efficient.

This is what's currently going on:
(sorry the description is so bloated)

I bought the domain name "dshire.com" from Namesecure.
Initially they offered e-mail forwarding, but at some stage, stopped this
service.
So, I now use ZoneEdit to forward my mail from my domain to MobileMe.
This works for delivering mail, however, for sending the situation is more
problematic.

Since MobileMe won't accept my Domain Name (but only my dot mac user name) i
have to send mail out via Bezeqint (my internet supplier).
(and for some reason, my iphone hates this)

And try to keep everything in sync between my computer, iphone and my mac-cloud.

Any suggestions to make my life simpler would be very warmly received.

thanks
David Shire

Thanks for your answer.
I have downloaded the page, and am going to practice the procedure, and hoping it will solve the problem.

Seems part of the problem may have been switched power bricks. Had a Macbook brick trying to power a MacBook Pro.
Switched back, plus half an hour, and booted.

Thanks for the support!

Apple Portables: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

The System Management Controller is an integrated circuit (computer chip) that is on the logic board of the computer. As the name implies, it is responsible for power management of the computer. It controls backlighting, hard disk spin down, sleep and wake, some charging aspects, trackpad control, and some input/output as it relates to the computer sleeping.

Over time, the settings in the System Management Controller may become unusable, which can result in operational anomalies with the computer. Examples include not turning on, not waking from sleep, not charging the battery, or not recognizing the AC Adapter, among others.

Resetting the SMC is not intended for resolution of a stall or situation in which the computer is unresponsive. An SMC reset should not be necessary except as a last resort in cases where a hardware issue with the power management system is suspected. Performing an SMC reset resets the hardware power management functions.

For most situations, a restart is sufficient. If the computer has stopped responding, try each one of these steps, one by one. Test between each step to see if it has worked. If one step works, don't worry about the next one.  You should only reset the SMC if you've tried all of the steps listed here and the computer still isn't working.

  1. Force Quit (Option-Command-Escape)
  2. Restart (Control-Command-Power)
  3. Force Shut Down (press the power button for 10 seconds)

Only perform an SMC reset on the computer if none of the above steps resolved the situation. If this is the case, see below for instructions on locating the reset button or key combination for your model of computer. If your computer is earlier than the models listed here, see "Resetting PowerBook and iBook Power Management Unit (PMU)" or "PowerBook: Resetting Power Management Unit (PMU)".

MacBook (13 inch, Late 2008), MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2008), and MacBook Pro (17-inch, Early 2008)

  1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
  2. Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the computer's battery.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds and then release the button.Reconnect the battery and AC Adapter.Press the power button to restart the computer

Note: Starting with MacBook Pro (Late 2008) and MacBook (Late 2008) models, you may instead use the reset method for MacBook Air (below) to reset the SMC.  All earlier models of MacBook and MacBook Pro must use the method described above, which involves removing the battery.

MacBook Air and MacBook Pro (Late 2008 and later)

  1. If the computer is on, turn it off by choosing Shutdown from the Apple () menu.
  2. Connect the power adapter to a working power source.
  3. On the built-in keyboard, press (left) Shift-Control-Option along with the power button once.
  4. Wait 5 seconds and press the power button to start the computer.

Note: You must use the keys on the left side of the built-in keyboard.

You should only perform an SMC reset when the MacBook Air or MacBook Pro (17-inch, Early 2009) has been properly shutdown. This prevents issues from occurring to the file system.

While the power adapter does not need to be connected to reset the SMC, it may be necessary in situations where the battery needs charging or if the computer has been without power for an extended period of time. You can also visually check the SMC reset by observing the LED on the adapter. It will momentarily turn off as the SMC resets.

It stated since 10.6.2:-)
To my other iMac with 10.6.2, nothing of this behavior.
It is possible that the issue is not restart but rather, a logout and login. I
can't say.

I don't know the specific issue, but I know that Outlook Express shows attached photos inline by default. I've tried to reset my mom's OE but have not found a way to do it. They will just have to learn to right click 'save image as' or drag and drop as mentioned.

Is there a solution or maybe something I don't know about the program?

When I would attach the image file, I would see the image in the email. But recently, the configuration changed (I don't remember what I did) and now I just see a little blue lego type icon with '?' on it, no identifying image or metadata, or any options for viewing as icon as before. Only when I it is in the 'sent' folder can I see what I sent out. How do I reconfigure so I can see the images before sending?

Can someone help me here?

I wish I knew the cause! This was happening to me at least once a week since
upgrading to Snow leopard, but stopped (bli ayin hara) with the 10.6.2 update.

Searching Google told me nothing.

Hello,

On my iMac 24 with 10.6.2 I am facing the last 4 days, already two times, an
undesired restart of the computer.
My computer is on 24 hours a day, as it was the last 18 years with all my Macs.
When I left it, it turns to sleep, and when trying to awake it, I fount it
already after restart.

Why, and what should I do to avoid it

I just called Bezeq. They lowered my fee 10 nis/mo for 6 mo, then back to where it is now for following 6 mo.

Note that the price goes up after six months, and if you sign up for a
new connection, you get a free router or modem.

That's whay you often see contracts with 6 months left on them offered
on various "anglo" mailing lists. If someone takes over your contract,
you start over again, get a new free router and the lower price.

It may also be time to negotiate a new deal with your ISP. I found
that switching to a "gamer's" package raised my ISP charges from 39
NIS a month to 69, but more than doubled the performance (and
therefore the value) of the line.

I looked at that offer when it first came out. If you make a lot of
local calls it's worth it for the 600 minutes to any Israeli phone. I
decided not to get it because you have to buy their router, which was
800 NIS charged to your credit card in one lump sum with 36 payments.
If you are on a budget, you may not want to tie up that much credit.

Note that the commitment for the service is 12 months, so you could
end up with a useless router you are paying off for 2 (more) years.

As for the cordless phones, you can do that with any multiple phone
DECT package. I bought 2 identical 2 phone packages for 180 NIS each
and have 4 phones tied together like that. The same phones have since
been on sale for 139 NIS a package, and about 20 NIS more if you
wanted an answering machine (we don't).

I was disapointed with my phones, because the English version of the
instruction manual, which I downloaded from a UK site before buying
them, included a feature of allowing multiple base stations and the
phones would "roam" to the strongest one. This allows you to double
the range of them in one direction.

When I got the phones, the included Hebrew instructions included the
same feature, but it does not exist in the phones themselves. :-(

When they first started offering service, Orange blocked many
protocols and applications, e.g. VoIP to other companies, bit torrent.
I have heard they were forced to open VoIP, but don't know about
anything else.

I recently switched to Partner (Orange) for a package including ISP, all local (Israeli) calls, they gave me a cordless phone and it works as an internal phone network so we can have three conversations simultaneously on the same line, use our phones as intercoms and more - and when I did the math it was cheaper than paying Bezeq for local calls and Bezeq International for ISP
