JIGYASA has changed - or rather we have had to change due to some
circumstances beyond our control. Munjal is going to Silicon Valley, Ved is
in Delhi and I am not very sure how long I will be in good old Madras.
Starting today we will have different JIGYASA's. JIGYASA- INDIA which will
be done by me, JIGYASA - DELHI done by Ved and some others like JIGYASA -
USA done by Ramprasad in US. We will also get into vertical segments like
JIGYASA - Business ,JIGYASA -technology (to be done by Munjal probably )
Hope we have more fun than we have ever had before
regards
Vijay Thomas

Business School, Hyderabad.

## Ans : Prof.Sumantra Ghosal

2. Temple Trees is the official residence of ...

## Ans : Currently, President of SriLanka. It was earlier the Prime Minister's
residence. When Ms.Chandrika graduated from PM to President, the residence
also...

Anindya Roy put forward this explanation too and he gets a bonus point for that
!

3. "Breathe 100% pure air with 20% discount on oxygen. Welcome to _____". Where
are you being welcomed to ?

## Ans : Thoise airfield, the highest airfield in the world, near Siachen

Only Harvinder Singh Rayat got this one correct.

4. Which Bangladeshi Freedom fighters party/association/group worked with the
Indian Armed forces in the Bangladesh Liberation War ?

## Ans : Mukti Bahini

5. Nominees for Nobel Prize for literature this year included 2 Indians. Name
them.

## Ans : Sir V S Naipaul and Salman Rushdie

6. Name the only Non-governmental organization in the whole world, which has all
the three wings of Armed Forces namely - Army, Navy & Air Force.

## Ans : LTTE.

Sorry to note that nobody answered this question correctly.

The most popular answer was UN. The UN does not have a permanent force of it's
own. A UN force is made up of armed officers on deputation, of various member
countries for a specific task.

7. Name the first Indian athlete to win a gold in a World athletics
championship.

## Ans : Discus thrower Seema Antil, this year.

8. Come 2003, the cricket fans would be on their toes again, as the World Cup
Cricket rolls in. Name the Venue of the 2003 World Cup Cricket Finals.

## Ans : Wanderers in Johannesburg, South Africa

South Africa was also given points.

9. Which Nobel category does not yet have a single female laureate?

## Ans : Economics.

Actually, in a small (but not cheap!) consolation, the 1995 economics prize was
"shared" by a woman.

Robert E. Lucas, the University of Chicago professor who won the 1995 Nobel
Prize in Economics for his work on the theory of "rational expectations," had to
split the $1 million prize with his ex-wife. Seven years before, she had her
divorce lawyer insert a clause that would cover such an eventuality. Under the
property settlement, if her ex-husband had won the prize the following year, he
would have been able to keep the whole thing. Mrs. Lucas was apparently acting
on her own set of rational expectations, since eight University of Chicago
professors have won the Nobel Prize so far; Lucas was the fifth in the last six
years.

10. Where are Maxwell Mountains located ?

## Ans : On Planet Venus

Hello people,

Overwhelmed - would be an understatement. I received exactly 113 replies.
Thanx a lot to all the people who participated. But first things first, here are
the answers:

appears is Microsoft Hearts. [ go to MS Hearts, and Help and Quote ] ###

   2) Where would you find Ulaanbaatar?

,directed by Ang Lee, named after the book itself.
Tabu and Rai played the roles in the (somewhat modernised) Tamil version,
directed by Rajiv Menon, and entitled "Kandukondein Kandukondein ".

P.S. : It turns out that most of you guys are fans of Aishwarya's huh?!? All
the wrong answers I got for Q.9) were all based on roles played by her in other
movies (eg:, "All have played a political character", etc. ). Also, one answer
was that all their b'days fall in the month of November. Well, as it turns out,
Aish's and Tabu's do fall in November, but not the other two. Anyway, good
try!!! Bye!!!

Birth Control
Perhaps the most appalling policies were those introduced to "boost" the

laws were obeyed. From 1983 it became the duty of every woman to produce a

Hi all,
Sorry for some errors in my mixed bag quiz.

Sandeep Banerjee have correctly pointed out that Katherine and Audrey Hepburn
are two entirely different people .Actually Audrey's name was Edda Kathleen van
Heemstra Hepburn.Katherine Hepburn was also an hollywood actress long before
Audrey.I meant to say it will be Kathleen instead of Catherine.

Suresh Ramasubramanian also pointed out the mistake in the time stamp. It will be
15th Nov instead of 15th Aug.My computer settings was wrong at that time.

Thanks,
Santanu
