Howdy ya'll,
First I'd like to congratulate those who passed the RPLS and SIT exams last
April.
The study groups are starting back up beginning witht he first session on
Saturday Septmeber 12, 2009, followed by two more sessions on September 26 and
October 10 (both on Saturdays). The meeting will be from 8am to noon. As before,
this won't be a class or lecture on surveying, but a chance to ask questions and
work sample problems. Please bring relevant study materials to share with the
group (as long as no copyrights are violated).
These sessions are free and open to everyone preparing for the exam this October
or even thinking about
taking the RPLS or SIT exams. It is not required to attend all the sessions, but
please RSVP for the meeting you will be attending. The best part is that
breakfast will be provided!
The groups will follow the same format as before with SIT candidates in one room
and RPLS candidates meeting in another, and they will still be at Halff
Associates Richardson office. There is a map to the office in the "Files"
folder.
A reminder will be posted a week before each session requesting RSVP's.
See ya'll there
Rene Salinas, RPLS
By popular demand the SIT & RPLS study groups will be meeting one more time this
Saturday, April 18, from 8am-noon at Halff Associates' office in Richardson (see
attached map). You don't need to have come to any of the other study groups to
come to this one. As always, there is no cost to attend, and breakfast will be
provided for those who RSVP. Please RSVP by replying to this post
Thanks,
Jason
from Jason Jernigan:
The last RPLS & SIT study groups will be held this Saturday, April 4, from
8am-noon at Halff Associates' Richardson office (see attached map). The RPLS
group will finish the questions for Situation II, and the SIT group will focus
on weak points revealed during the last meeting's practice exam. You do not
need to have attended the last two meetings to come to this one. As always,
there is no charge for the groups and breakfast is provided for those who RSVP.
Please RSVP by
responding to this post or email Jason directly if you plan on attending.
The RPLS and SIT study groups will meet again from 8am-noon this Saturday, March
21, at Halff Associates' Richardson office (see attached map). The RPLS group
will finish answering the questions for Situation JJ from the TBPLS website and
then start on Situation II. You don't need to have attended the last meeting
come to this one.
The SIT group will take and then grade a practice exam. Please arrive promptly
to allow enough time to take the entire practice exam. This is an excellent
opportunity to highlight areas you may be weak in and should focus you studies
on.
As always there is no cost for attending and breakfast will be provided for
those who RSVP. Please RSVP by replying to this post or by e-mailing me
directly.
There were four participants and one instructor for this meeting. Topics
covered include geometry, trigonometry, geodesy, GIS, Public Land Survey System,
vocabulary, and field procedures. We plan on taking a four hour practice exam
at the next meeting on March 21.
The first study group will meet tomorrow morning from 8am-noon at Halff
Associates' Richardson office (see map in the "files" section). Thank you to
those who have already RSVPed. If you would like to attend but have not yet
RSVPed, please reply to this post or e-mail me directly. See my previous post
for more information.
Thanks,
Jason

There will be three study group meetings before the April 2009 SIT exam. The first meeting will be Saturday, March 7, from 8am-noon at Halff Associates' Richardson office (see map in the "Files" section). The other two meetings are tentatively scheduled for March 21 and April 4.
We will work though problems from sample exams at the first meeting and spend additional time on the subjects people have questions about. Please bring any questions you might have found to the meeting and we'll try to work them as a group. This group is open to anyone who is studying to take the SIT exam this April or in the future. As always, there is no cost for the study group, and breakfast is provided for those who RSVP. Please RSVP by e-mailing me directly or by replying to this post.

All,
Wow, that isn't something you want to see in your inbox on a Monday
morning! Sorry about the spam over the weekend from this site. I've
removed the messages and revoked the membership of the "member" who
posted them. I'll probably end up turning on the filter for new
members as a result.

A year a half ago when I took the SIT exam I ended up staying at
Hampton Inn, which was affordable and only 10-15 minutes drive away
from the Board building.
It's at the intersection of I.H.-35 and 45. Its address is
110 Dell Way
Round Rock, TX 78664
(512) 248-9100
hamptoninn.comý
At the time of the exam back then there was a lot of construction
going on along I.H.35 and therefore a lot of the exits were closed.
Nevertheless, the location of the Hotel suited me pretty well,
because even if you were to take the service road it's only 15
minutes drive.
Best of luck to all of you on Friday's test. Hope I helped

I would like to wish everyone taking the exam on Saturday good luck. I know you'll all do great.
Make sure you know exactly where you're going before Saturday morning. The location is a little hard to find if you've never been there. I strongly recommend taking off Friday if you can swing it. Plan on bringing a lunch with you or eating in the cafeteria. There isn't enough time to go grab something and make it back. And besides, do you really want to gamble your test score against Austin traffic?
I'll be looking for all of your names after the Board meets in December. Good Luck!!

The study group on the September 20th was a great success. We had a
total of 16 people attend. Linda Hernandez from Precise Land Records
catered delicious breakfast tacos, and René Ortiz gave a brief
presentation on the types of services PLR offers.
We have reached our last meeting before the October exams. It will be
this Saturday, October 4, from 8am-noon at Halff Associates' office in
Richardson (see map in the "Files" section). I have some topics
scheduled to review, but please feel free to bring up any subjects you
still might need some help with. As always, the study groups are free
and breakfast is provided for those who RSVP. Please RSVP by
responding to this post if you plan on attending.
Can you please email the directions? I am having trouble pulling
up the file from the yahoo group. Thanks!

The RPLS & SIT study groups will meet again
this Saturday, September 6,
from 8am-noon at Halff Associates in Richardson (see map in the
"Files"
section). This is the second of our four biweekly meetings in
preparation for the October exams. The RPLS group will be working
through some longer analytical problems and the SIT group will continue
with the PM portion of the NCEES practice exam. You do not need to
have attended the last meeting to come to this one.
Please RSVP by replying to this post if you plan on attending.
Breakfast will be provided for those who RSVP. As always, the study
groups are free and open to everyone.
Please reply to this e-mail and request that your name be removed from
this mailing list if you no longer wish to receive updates about the
study groups.
The next study group meeting will be this Saturday, September 20, from
8am-noon at Halff Associates' Richardson office (see map in the "Files"
section). This is the meeting to attend if you can only make it one
time this year! Linda Hernandez from Precise Land Records will be
catering breakfast tacos, and she and René Ortiz will give a short
presentation on the services PLR offers. The RPLS group will work
through some long analytical problems, and the SIT group will cover
vertical curves, traverse closures, and standard deviation. All of
this is offered free of charge. Please RSVP by replying to this post
or by e-mailing me directly if you plan on attending.
Thanks,
Jason
The study group on September 6 was a success. A total of 14 people
showed up evenly split between the two groups. The RPLS group
practiced some more inverses longhand and worked through Situation ii
from the sample problems available on the TBPLS website. The SIT group
worked through part of the PM portion of the NCEES sample test. Next
time the RPLS group will continue working analytical problems and the
SIT group will cover vertical curves, traverse closures, and standard
deviation.
Linda Hernandez from Precise Land Records has offered cater breakfast
for the next meeting free of charge. This will be a marked improvement
from our usual sausage roll and donut breakfast! This is the meeting
to attend if you can only make it one time this year.
I will send out a request for RSVPs when the September 20 meeting gets
closer.
I'll be there.
