Subject: Fotovraag Polen / Tsjechi�

Van 10-18 februari ga ik met een paar kennissen een paar dagen naar Polen en
Duitsland om stoomlocs te fotograferen. De bedoeling is van ma-wo rondom
Wolsztyn (http://www.parowozy.com.pl/indexd.html) te fotograferen, donderdag
een halve dag ergens tussen Wolsztyn (PL) en J�hstadt (D), vrijdag ergens in
Tsjechi�, zaterdag bij J�hstadt (www.pressnitztalbahn.de) en zondagochtend
Cranzahl-Oberwiesenthal).

Wie kan mij antwoord geven op ��n of meer onderstaande vragen?
- Wat zijn leuke fotopunten in de buurt van Wolsztyn (stoom)?
- Is er in de buurt van Wolsztyn (straal van 150 km) nog iets anders
   leuks te fotograferen, bijv. lijnen met veel goederenverkeer?
- Wat is een aanrader om een halve dag door te brengen ergens tussen
   Wolsztyn (PL) en Chemnitz/J�hstadt (D)? Ik dacht zelf aan grensstation
   Horka (D) maar misschien dat iemand een beter idee heeft...
- Voor een dag Tsjechi� op vrijdag zoek ik iets interessants tussen
   ongeveer Chomutov en Karlovy Vary, liefst met redelijk wat

In Lovosice is een terminal waar vrachtwagens op de trein worden gezet richting Dresden en Praag.

Hangt er vanaf wat je precies wilt. Fotograferen op de vrije baan, emplacementen,

private locs??? Industrieplaatsen is wat vaag, daar er veel doorgangsverkeer is

op de lijn Chomutov – Karlovy Vary.

Waar wat te vinden is (ff de ‘”``� enzo weggelaten):

- emplacement Usti nad Labem Strekov

- emplacement Usti nad Labem Zapad

- ten westen van Brezno (aan meer Nechranice) een kolencentrale met eigen materieel (Skoda)!

- Trebusice: enorme dagbouwmijnen (lastig om bij te komen, ff zoeken)

- Most-Kopisty (Chemo-toko)

Bedankt voor je reactie. Mijn voorkeur is voornamelijk langs-de-lijn, maar natuurlijk ook industrie e.d. Maar liever geen statische close-ups op stations. Ik ga eens even op de kaart kijken naar de plaatsen die je noemt. De tijd is met ��n dag helaas behoorlijk beperkt...

- Wat zijn leuke fotopunten in de buurt van Wolsztyn (stoom)?
- Is er in de buurt van Wolsztyn (straal van 150 km) nog iets anders
leuks te fotograferen, bijv. lijnen met veel goederenverkeer?
- Wat is een aanrader om een halve dag door te brengen ergens tussen
Wolsztyn (PL) en Chemnitz/J�hstadt (D)? Ik dacht zelf aan grensstation
Horka (D) maar misschien dat iemand een beter idee heeft...
- Voor een dag Tsjechi� op vrijdag zoek ik iets interessants tussen
ongeveer Chomutov en Karlovy Vary, liefst met redelijk wat
goederenverkeer. Ik ben al eens bij H�jek en Dalovice geweest, maar
dit zijn geen echte industrieplaatsen. Iemand een beter idee?
- Zaterdag Winterdampf met goederentreinen bij de Pressnitztalbahn;
daarvoor heb ik geen aanvullende info nodig... :-P

Let wel dat het landschap daar vrij vlak is.
Ook is op iedere station nog een orginele stationsgebouw aanwezig, in
Grodzisk nog een aardig voetgangersbrug vanwaar je de trein leuk kan
fotograferen (althans, in de jaren `90!)

Ja, een der goederenslagaders nl. Wroclaw - Zielona Gora - Kosstrzyn -
Szczecin waar je in de buurt van Zielona Gora je geluk moet proeven.
Smalspoorlijn Stare Bojanowo - Smigiel - Wielichowo, inensiver verkeer
tussen Stare Bojanowo en Smigiel (scholierenverkeer)
De lijn Gubin - Zieloa GGora omdat daar ook goederentreinen rijden, helaas
geen intensief verkeer maar wel diesel!
Ik weet niet of Sroda - Zaniemysl (smalspoor, stoom!) nog rijd.

De lijn Hoyerswerda - Horka - Wegliniec word ge-electrificeeerd, nu daar
intensief goederenvervoer, lokwissel in Horka (ten oosten van Horka
reizigers).
Volgens mij zijn de armseinen daar helaas al verdwenen.

Ik hoop dat je er wat van heb, veel succes.

Ralph Rawlinson advises that Bristol City Council has announced that
Bristol to Emersons Green, the western end of the Bristol and Bath railway
path, is to be converted into a guided busway.  This is the UK's busiest
railway path and generates over 2 million walking and cycling journeys per
year.  Sustrans is campaigning against the proposals and has pointed out
that, whilst it is desirable to improve public transport in Bristol, it

Andy and Ernie Sollis inform me that one of the finest railway
photographers of his age, Henry Benjamin Priestley, has died aged 97.
Railway photography was his passion, and he was a founder member of the
Tramway Museum Society, but he is also well remembered as Headmaster of
Brunts Grammar School, Mansfield.  Ernie Sollis was a pupil and remembers
"Ben" (as he was known) arranging a trip for the school from
Sutton-in-Ashfield Town (GNR) station to Oxford with what he believes was
a B1 in charge both ways.  The negative collection was split up some years
ago but his photographs continue to be published in books.  The local

On 26/27th April, there will an open weekend at Fencote and Rowden Mill
stations.  As they are not normally open to the public, this will be a
rare opportunity to visit these privately-owned and restored stations on
the ex-GWR Leominster-Worcester line   The event celebrates the 50th
anniversary of the SLS Special that was the last passenger train on the
Bromyard branch to Leominster on 26th April 1958.  The stations will be
open between midday and 6.00pm on both days.

The Penlee Quarry Narrow Gauge at Newlyn, near Penzance was a 2ft gauge
line that was replaced by a conveyor belt in 1972.  The quarry is now
subject to a locally-contested plan to open the lake area out to seaward

European news from Ralph Rawlinson...

High Speed Lines in Spain:

Completion of the final part of the Madrid-Barcelona high-speed line has
been delayed by tunnelling problems, and an opening is not now likely
before the end of February at the earliest.  However, the opening of the
Madrid-Valladolid and Antequera Santa Ana-Malaga HSLs took place as
planned on 23rd and 24th December respectively.  When the first AVE train
arrived in Malaga, there was understandable and perhaps justified euphoria
and celebration.  Certainly a few months ago it seemed almost impossible
that the civil engineering work, including a 2km-long underground section
on the last few kilometres into Malaga, could be completed on time.

On the 55km or so through the mountainous territory between Antequera and
Malaga there are 19 viaducts totaling over 11km in length (the longest
being 1,209 metres long and 93.4metres high) and 8 tunnels, with a total
length of 25km (the Abdalajis tunnel is 7,300 metres long).

Services are generally being operated by Talgo/Bombardier Class 102 (El
Patos) or Siemens-Velaro Class 103 trains. In the first few days of public
service on both lines there were some highly-publicised instances of
delay, including one of 40 minutes and one of 45 minutes - both of these
meaning that the operator RENFE had to refund fares to all the passengers.
Delays have been blamed on problems with computers affecting the
signalling, but opposition parties and some of the media have been quick
to accuse the government of putting political kudos before safety and
security, saying that not enough trial running has been carried out.

It may be no coincidence that so many spectacular infrastructure projects
in Spain are being delivered at this time, and that the date of the next
general election is 9th March 2008.  The prime minister again shielded his
minister from blame for the Barcelona failure and admitted that it had
been chaotic.  Opening is promised "soon", but no date is being quoted.
La Generalitat Valenciana has been complaining bitterly that Valencia was
not given priority over the lesser routes just opened and that far more
passengers will be carried on the AVEs to their city than on those to any
of the others, including Barcelona and Seville.

European Sleeper Services:

The ongoing construction of European high speed lines mean that more and
more journeys can now be completed in daylight hours but there are still a
surprising number of overnight sleeper services.  The City Night Line
international sleeper operation is now majority owned by DB and the
operation has been revamped. Named trains always add glamour to ones
journey and all City Night Line's trains now have them.  These are:

The December timetable change also saw the introduction of through sleeper
coaches to Moscow from Basel, Munich, Paris and Amsterdam using gauge-
changing apparatus.  The service runs twice a week (three times in summer)
with a layover during the day in Berlin.

Rail magazine reports that plans to electrify the Bidston-Wrexham line
have gained the financial support of the Welsh Assembly.  It is thought
that this will help justify an engineering survey currently underway.
New stations might be built at Woodchurch and Beechwood.

A heavy rail link between Manchester's two main stations, Piccadilly and
Victoria, is back under discussion following comments by Transport
Secretary Ruth Kelly.  And while a long-proposed and favoured solution,
the Ordsall curve, could be the natural frontrunner, there is speculation
that the 1970s scheme for a tunnel across the city centre could be
revived.  In the Commons, Kelly said: "I think that in the future a
sensibly costed plan for Manchester, perhaps including linking Victoria
and Piccadilly, could lead to far more commuters being able to travel in
greater comfort in and out of Manchester every day." Asked afterwards if
that could include a tunnel, an official in her department reportedly
said: "All options will be considered." A recent report for the Northern
Way notes provisional costs for the Ordsall Curve at �44m, and the whole
'Ordsall package' at some �250m, while there are suggestions that a
Picc-Vic tunnel could cost at least �500m.

I am contacting you in the hope that your programme might be able to give
even the briefest of mention to a worthy cause that is at a crucial point
of near financial collapse.  For over 9 years, huge efforts have been made
to return an icon of British heritage to public display - an Avro Vulcan
aeroplane.  The whole thrust of the restoration to flight project was
based around the invaluable asset it represents to the education of our
children, in British science, engineering and history.  On the basis of
this, it remains the only project of its kind to receive funding from the
Heritage Lottery Fund.

After a record breaking first flight in its present restored form in
October 2007, vital funding and sponsorship has eluded the project team.
The aircraft currently sits in a Leicestershire hangar, fully flight-
ready, unable to appear at UK airshows this year due to an URGENT cash
shortage.  If, by the end of March this year, �150,000 cannot be found to
jump this final hurdle, the whole 9 year project will close along with the
extensive education programme built around this incredible machine.

As a national heritage asset, belonging to every man woman and child
within our shores, the aircraft's immediate prospects are dire without the
rightful media coverage so desperately sought.  I would be extremely
grateful if you could find even a one minute slot in your busy programme
schedule to help champion this unique and worthy cause.

Heey Allemaal

Ik heb daarstraks op Somda.nl gelezen dat er "waarschijnlijk" 25 en 26
feb. een proeftir gereden gaat worden met de Kameel NS'20. Ook zijn er
tijden bekend. Maar kan er iemand een bevestiging geven of het
werkelijk zo is, dat er gereden gaat worden met de Kameel en niet met
iets anders? Vind het namelijk een beetje zonde om bijna 2 uur in de
auto te zitten voor iets wat er dan niet gaat rijden.

Ik hoor wel een reactie.

Op het OVL forum werd enige weken geleden al gemeld dat de
Kameel op een proefrit werd gesignaleerd in Breda. Daarna ging
de NS 20 weer terug naar Tilburg.
Blijkbaar zijn de testritten vanuit Tilburg goed afgerond en waagt
men  een aantal langere proefritten.
Mijn ervaring is ga de eerste dag dat het rijdt?? Het kan die dag
defect gaan zodat de tweede dag net rijdt.......
