I'm also very interested in seeing what someone who has this mill thinks of it. Talked to Bob at Lathemaster and he said it's super quiet and very capable...
Personally my concern is with the Y-axis base ways. They look so thin. Just to think about over tightening the gib screws and crack there goes the way....
Rick the weight of that table is about 35 pounds ... and you never tighten a jib screw up that tight finger tight only just enough so the table will glide...
Thanks in part to some encouraging words here I took the leap and got the 8 x 14 lathe. I ended up getting the Lathemaster, in the end with various shipping...

+1 on the QCTP. Get the one designed for it - no sense buying a generic AXA unit and have to modify it before you can install it. Also, keep in mind that it...
The trade-off here is, the AXA takes some machining, while the "ready made" one bolts right on and you're off and running. But, the AXA offers near universal...

Hi, Understood. I did two things on my 8x lathe that might help this issue: 1) used two nuts and 2) a wave washer to maintain tension. The first nut...
In addition to Druid's recommendations: To set proper spacing of gears (between too right and noisy and too lose and skipping) put a piece of typing paper...
I just ran into the wrench too thick problem last night on my 9x30. I dug out one of the supplied wrenches and took an angle grinder to it to thin it out. This...
Hi Rich, As installed, I have 1x thin nut, 1x std. nut and 1x wave washer - it is almost flush, i.e., a smalll amount on the axel extends. If you use you...
... Yup, it can take forever - but I've found eventually the parts DO come. They do not stock replacement parts, generally, so a replacement part order has to...
Hi Rich, I do agree that the 8x is a real nice item and for those who got it when on sale AND the 20% coupon - CONGRATULATIONS. While I expect the delay...
