I wonder...what's the possibility after 50+ years in
the elements that ANYTHING will move on those
engines??

I just got off the phone with a reporter from the Roanoke Times, who informed me that N&W 2-8-0 no. 917 will be leaving the Virginia Scrap Iron & Metal yard...

They will generally roll if the journals are properly prepared. I realize that this engine will never run again, but it is a shame to see it damaged by people...

50 years of service puts the wear on no doubt, I tend to believe when the N&W got the 0-8-0's they took these out of service. Other 4-8-0's continued service...

I can assure that the journals will be rusted. Water drips off the boiler right over the journals and onto them. And in that humid climate, they will rust...
