Hmm.  Wonder if the firebrick is even intact...water freezing and expanding over
the years.  And then there's the "hazardous materials" liability thing...

the firebox wont have water leaks, perhaps just air moisture. You could take some plastic spray coating and cover the brick. That would also stop pieces from...
