the firebox wont have water leaks, perhaps just air moisture. You could
take some plastic spray coating and cover the brick. That would also
stop pieces from falling off and give it a finish.
Its actually a good idea for fund raising to replace the firebrick
itself, I doubt it could raise enough to move the engines.
The IRM replaced siding on a caboose or a passenger car, you bought a
piece of siding making a donation, and they put your name or the
donator's name on the backside of the piece, tho you won't see the name
on the outside.
I tend to believe moving the engines will take either a deep pocket or
donated work of a moving company in trade for free publicity in the move
(which will happen for sure), or get really innovative about doing the
move somehow cheaply.
It could come down to onsite repairs loosening up the bearings, then
move on panel track.

on everything. Sometimes it's more profitable to just stand in front of the
grocery store asking for donations than it is to acquire merchandise/ produce a
product/sell said product.

With deep pockets. With a last name like...Claytor.

the close to 100 year old sinders from the fire boxes and sell them in tall
clear jars like those from Spaghetti? Sounds stupid but you would be surprised
at what people would buy. Like maybe a history buff or teacher or railfan. Also
what about taking all the different pictures of the engines and going to
someplace like Cafe press and making T-shirts or Coffee mugs and selling them at
rail related meets? Maybe even the N&W HS would help with N&W steam photos?
