The meeting was called to order and the November minutes was
reviewed, and accepted.

1. Suggestion for meeting attendence:
  a.  Meet with your head nurse ahead of time. place your meeting time
on the schedule. Remember the time and make an effort to be at each
meeting. Come to participate
  b. Set up a display in the Atrium with information about the forum
to add new members.
  c. Dr. Jackson suggested a social mixer that his department would
sponsor for minority nurses to come network and find out about the
organization.
  d. Get a list of all the minority nurses from the HR department.
Send out letters to all and invite them to join the group and give
information of the organizations goals.

If you are having difficulty with time for meetings please inform me.
The leadership group supports our group, and want to know why we are
not geting the necessary time for the meetings. The departments are
to get you off for your meetings.
This is a new time and we have to support the Forum if we want it to
an active force at UH. Put the past behind this is a new era, please
lets be a part of it.
We have been approached by Dr. Jackson and other in leadership
positions to speak to our group. I have not accepted due to the low
attendance. If we don't support the group how can we expect anyone
else to take us seriously.
I reconize that we have come though some very difficult times and
trust is very low, but if we don't move ahead we will never get ahead.

REMEMBER:
IF YOU THINK YOU ARE BEATEN, YOU ARE. IF YOU THINK YOU CARE NOT, YOU
DON'T. IF YOU LIKE TO WIN BUT THINK YOU CAN'T, IT'S ALMOST CERTAIN
YOU WANT.
NO ONE CAN DEFEAT YOU BUT YOURSELF. WE CAN BE A TOWER OF STRENGTH,
ITS ALL UP TO US.
AND NOW WE HAVE HELP, REAL HELP.

Linda Young and I had a meeting with Ms. Koppleman and she is also
backing our organization. This is our day people, lets not blow
it.

2. Suggestion election of Officers:
  At the December meeting we will elect officers.
The election of officers will spread the responsibilities. No one
person will have the entire load. Many hands make the load light. If
each one has one thing to do we will have a upward mobile
organization.
The positions to be anounced at the December meeting. The first to be
filled will be the co-chair, and sect.

3. African American History Month:
  February is fast closing on us. We need to get togather as to what
our program will be for this year. The program was very successful
last year. If you have ideas of speakers and any other activities for
the month come prepared to discuss them.

December will be a continuation of November's meeting. Attendence,
Elections and Programs. Please be there.
If you have any Minority Nurses in your area, on your division,
friend, please let them know the time and date of the meeting.

Heart and Vascular Institute (see details below).  We are in the
process of
gathering people to help staff the event.  Robin Rowell and Diane
Gorbey

cholesterol and blood pressure screening.  I was hoping the UH
Minority
Nurses Association might be able to assist us in staffing this
event.  I

On Sunday June 24th the University Hospitals' Heart and Vascular
Institute
in association with the American Heart Association, Cleveland Medical
Association, and Astra Zeneca will be holding an all day blood
pressure,
cholesterol, and glucose screening event at the Word Church Multiplex
in
Warrensville Heights.  This is a major undertaking as we anticipate
that
over the 8 hour period we will screen over 1000 people.  We need
physicians
to serve as educators/counselors explaining results to participants
(i.e.
very basic stuff "HDL is your good cholesterol, LDL is your bad
cholesterol...." etc.-we will pass out basic guidelines at the
event).   We
are asking for individuals to volunteer 2 hours of time.  Please mark

This is to bring you up to date with the organization. I know that it
has been hard for us trying to stay afloat, but good news. We are
being supported by Dr. Jackson. The conference that we sponsored for
the African American History Month, with Dr. Grant as the speaker,
was well attended. Dr. Jackson's office sponsored the food for us and
also had the fliers supplied. He will back us with our programs. We
need adminstrative backing, and he has the authority.

I am the minority nurse at the Minority Faculty meetings. One of the

meetings. He would like to get minority nurses involved in his
research. I have delayed this due to our attendance factor at the
meetings.

HOSPITAL HEALTH CENTER HEALTH FAIR. THE DATE IS SEPTEMBER 13, 2003.
YOU MAY SIGN UP FOR A FEW HOURS OR THE DAY. WE WILL APPRECIATE WHAT
EVER TIME YOU CAN GIVE. THE  UNIVERSITY DOCTORS WILL BE THERE FOR
SCREENING OF PATIENTS. SOME OF THE SCREENING: BREAST CANCER,PROSTATE
CANCER, BLOOD PRESSURE, DIABETES, TO NAME A FEW.
PLEASE BE A PART OF THIS GREAT CAUSE TO FIND AND TREAT EARLY THESE
KILLER DISEASES.
CHILDERN HEALTH CARE ISSUES WILL BE ADDRESS. DOCTORS WILL BE THERE
FROM ALL THE SPECIALTIES, SO PLEASE COME AND HELP MAKE THIS A SUCCESS.

THE AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY DISPLAY IN THE ATRIUM WAS TAKEN DOWN.
THE POSTER HAD BEEN DEFACED. PICTURES WAS REMOVED AND OTHER MATERIAL
DESTROYED. IT LOOKED TO BAD TO LEAVE UP. I DID NOT HAVE ANY MORE
MONEY TO REPLACE THE DISPLAY.
THE PROGRAM FOR THE TWENTY EIGHT OF THIS MONTH HAS ALSO BEEN
CANCELLED. WE WERE BUMPED OUT OF TWO CONFERENCE ROOMS. AGAIN I DID
NOT HAVE FUNDS TO REDO FLYERS FOR THE PROGRAM.
THIS HOSPITAL TALK DEVERSITY BUT THAT IS AS FAR AS IT GOES. IF YOU
RECEIVED YOUR DIVERSITY FLYER IN THE MAIL FROM THE HOSPITAL YOU SEE
THAT THEY ENCLUDED THE MINORITY NURSE FORUM. THEY CAN TAKE CREDIT
WHEN ITS FOR THEIR BENEFIT. WE DO NOT GET ANY SUPPORT FROM THE
HOSPITAL. THE LITTLE THAT WE DO ACCOMPLISH IS DONE WITHOUT THE HELP
OF ADMINISTRATION.
OUR PROGRAMS ARE ON PAPER BUT NOT CARRIED OUT BECAUSE WE DO NOT HAVE
THE MONEY FOR GOOD SPEAKERS. THE FEW WE HAD I PLEADED WITH THEM TO
COME WITHOUT CHARGE. WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO THAT.
IF YOU KNOW OF ANY SPEAKERS THAT WOULD COME WITHOUT CHARGING US LET
ME KNOW. WE STILL WOULD LIKE TO PUT ON THE CONFERENCE "VIOLENCE
AGANIST WOMEN" WE NEED KNOWLEDGEABLE PEOPLE THAT CAN SPEAK ON THE
DIFFERENT AREAS OF VIOLENCE. THIS WOULD ENCOMPASS NOT ONLY VIOLENCE
IN THIS COUNTRY BUT OTHERS. MIDDLE EASTERN, AFRICA, INDIA ETC
YOU CAN E-MAIL ME OR CALL THE MATHER O.R. AT 42260

I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A CONFERENCE IN NOVEMBER ON "VIOLENCE AGANIST
WOMEN". NOT ONLY IS THIS A PROBLEM IN THIS COUNTRY BUT ALL OVER THE
WORLD. WE WILL NEED SOME ONE FROM INDIA, AFRICA, ASIA, AND THE USA TO
SPEAK ON THIS ISSUE FROM THEIR COUNTRIES PERSPECTIVE.

EXAMPLES OF WHAT'S HAPPENING ARE FEMALE CIRCUMCISION, RAPE OF VIRGINS
TO CURE AIDS,BURNING AND KILLING FOR FAMILY HONOR, SLAVERY FOR
PROSTITUTION, AND IT GOES ON AND ON.
