Howdy Mike, that's exactly how the 401-B looked before I added the uppermost
nose stripes, painted the rails and grabirons yellow, and added the
green-and-yellow "frames" to the number boards... When I added the uppermost
yellow stripes, the other stripes looked too "pale", I found that they became
more "yellow" when I rubbed paint thinner across them with a rag, removing the
oxidation. The stripes were still too "pale" anyhow, so I came back the
following summer and painted all the stripes at the same time, so that they
would all weather at the same rate... It was during that trip in 1998 that I
added the air horn... During early 1999, other Museum folk under the auspices of
Mr. Taylor, added the black self-coating metal preservative to the roof of the
F-unit... Pete
