There's another thing I came across. I am testing a system based on
EoD data. My system generates two orders on the last bar of data
(which is actually 28th of September 2001):
46 20010928 1600 Buy-Mkt FoK - 1 20010928 1600 Open - dz_buy
47 20010928 1600 Buy-Stop GTC 962.907 1 20010928 1600 Open - mmstop
But these orders are not shown in the systemmonitor although
trade.monitor is set to true on the first bar of the chart (see
below). Is there something else I have to do to make these orders
appear in the systemmonitor window ?
Thanks for your help.
Michael
Hi,
programming and testing a trading system I came across a definition
that puzzled me a bit.
After entering a long position (+1) I am trying to set a
money-management-stop to limit my downside risk. I used to do this
with a sell stop order. But this order behaves like what I am used to
know as a buy stop order. Using a buy stop it works fine.
What is the correct way to place a protective stop for a long
position. Is it really defined as buy stop ? Is this a common
definition ?
I sent this message to the tickquest support board it I think it fits
better in here.

Was very busy today - can answer the question now.
It seems NeoTicker is a new app for eSignal, thus the restriction
of 10 days is still there. I've checked the maximum request allowed
using my debug tools ... will report this to eSignal to see if they
will relax the condition for NeoTicker :)
On the other hand, there is no need to worry, because the data is cached
locally so you will be able to address more data everyday. And eventually
you can address more data than eSignal or MetaStock :)

The min / max button are hidden by MS Windows, but you can still access the
service through right-click on the caption bar itself. Less convenient but
works.
Why the min/max buttons? I think Microsoft has its reasons ...
but no one understand them ... :) we definitely want them to stay on in small
caption.

-The wrong time setting caused the missing bars and incorrect number of intraday bars.I changed the time setting from 9:30 to 6:30. It is ok now.
-As for the Min Max button on the chart, the control button is under "visual" and I did switch from large to normal.
I just never expected that it would affect the Min Max setting. The smaller title bar can't have Min Max?

I checked both eSignal and Metastock chart and they have no problems go back to two months.
Are you able to get the data more than a month with yours?
From looking at your chart, it appears you have a wrong start or end
time for your trading hours.

Aside from the option load minute bar by ticks affected your
data loading, there are some other factors that is special for the
eSignal feed.
eSignal imposes a limit of the # of days you can load which varies
based on many factors - like which tick server you are connected to,
which program you are using, what time of date you are requesting the
data, etc.
NeoTicker has the special ability to cumulate historical real time
data, both tick based and minute based ones, on your hard disk
automatically , and can reuse those data no matter what the current
restriction is.
Thus longer you use NeoTicker, the more intraday data you can plot,
only limited by the available HD space :)
Lawrence
> -I am still getting 4 bars per day on Min/60 setting. Please check
the gif file.
NeoTicker is designed with Multiple Time Zone in mind thus the
trading hours should be translated to the local time zone your
computer is set to.
For example, for a New York traded stock IBM trading from 9:30 -
16:00,
it will be 8:30 to 15:00 for a computer set to use Central Time.
Please check if it is the reason.

could you check under the chart manager, data setting tab,

Did you changed the large caption / small caption option?
With small caption there is no min/max button for function windows,
and those options are available when you right-click in the caption
area. Small caption is designed to save screen space.
Large caption mode each function windows will show their
own icons and the caption size will be normal like the
other windows program.
which MS Windows you are using?
Usually when something like this happen, you will
want to provide the configuration of your system as part of
the description so the others can have a chance to understand
where the problem may come from.
> Notice Chart Tool screen is behind the main chart and the intraday

your screenshot clearly showing that you turned on the
minute bar by tick option - I think you get only 10 days of tick data
from eSignal.
For minute bar data, you can get more.
> How can I do a "clean installation" which removes any hidden data

Seems like you may want to give the tutorial section under the
Help menu a shot, as NeoTicker provides quite a lot of features
in customizing its look and usage ...

if possible, please post your settings that lead to this behaviour ...
the info that affects the data loaded are,
1. data setting (trading hours, weekends in use, etc.)
2. days to load
3. symbol in question
I will test in real time tomorrow and take some screenshots.

we are revising the chart tool bar which includes adding a few more
drawing tools. Pitchfork is a good choice, but which camp are you in
creating the "fork"? Maybe we need to accomodate a few different
style of fork construction, do let us know how you usually draw the
fork.

There is no "customize" drawing tool available in 2.4
I am working on a way to provide easy user plug in of
customized drawing tool, which will be made available when
it is completed.

will definitely include code example when it is made available.

What symbols you are retrieving? I have no problem getting daily data back
to 1990 for GE, IBM amd MSFT with eSignal.
Make sure you have set enough days to load (in chart, Esc, right click, days
to load)

I do get 7 bars per day (see attached file 60minMSFT.gif). Please verify
the trading time under chart manager.

I assume you turn on overlay on the data. This is the designed behavior
as the data lost its scaling information.
If you simply want a fixed scale on the chart, press Esc, right click to
open
the popup menu and choose Edit Pane.

Drawing tool scripts are not available in NeoTicker. This feature has been
requested and will be added in a later release.

Hi,
I tried e signal real time this morning and got some points to make.
-The chart goes only up to March '99 on Daily and up. No data before
March '99.
-The problem with intraday bar size setting. Choosing Min / 60 should
give 7 bars per day (6 1/2 hrs), but It displays 4 bars per day.
The same thing happens on other time frames.(Min / 10 puts out 21
bars/day. It should be 39 bars)
-E signal allows 2 months of intraday data. Neo Ticker goes up about
one month, and I just checked it with Metastock and it shows intraday
chart for a little over two months long.
-When I picked the manual price scale selection, all the numbers on
the vertical scale disappeared and stays that way until I choose
Auto scale back.
What should I do to make Pitchfork on the drawing tools? I tried it
with Fan tool and couldn't make it. I had to use both trendlline and
s/r tool.
I am interested in the drawing tool scripts to make my own and I
couldn't find any sample codes.
Since my experience is limited to Metastock codes, the drawing tool
example scripts would be a good help.
Thanks.

I just uploaded the files CurrDHigh.Pas and
CurrDLow.Pas to the file area.
They implement the current day high and low
indicators.
To install them, use Install Indicator buttons
in the script manager.
Louis
Someone questioned me why NeoTicker has only indicators,
no show-me, no color-study, blah blah blah ...
The short answer is that NeoTicker's indicator can do
all these specialized concepts without the extra
trouble of making you to learn yet another set of rules
to create your ideal form of presentation, with the
advantage the indicator can be reused in scanner, and
other windows that will support indicator computation.
Louis already posted one example in a previous message
showing this unique power,
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/neoticker/files/colorstudy.gif
Lawrence
I have posted one example group of function windows already.
Now, if you are interested in other type of setups,
let me know. Will provide more examples based on your requests.
For those who is interested to see or learn how to
program in NeoTicker, then post your request and we can
talk about it here with illustrative code.
Lawrence
Welcome all new members who signed up this week.
This board is different from the NeoTicker discussion board
on our official site as that is more for technical support
issues, etc.
For this group, feel free to post about trading, ideas in
using NeoTicker, questions on how to use NeoTicker, etc.
It is less formal and hopefully everyone will feel at ease :)
Lawrence
We have created the first set of sample group with function windows
that is suitable for different style of trading.
The sample_real_time_swing_trade group contains a set of 7 function
windows. It provides a basic framework for those who like to
daytrade only a few times per day.
To use the group, download the files from their respective sample
folder in the file section and then save them into the NeoTicker
directory. If you do not know how to copy function windows in
NeoTicker. Check out the FAQ section in our site.
A screenshot of these windows in action is uploaded into the file
area,
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/neoticker/files/sample_real_time_swing_trade.jpg
The detail step by step screenshot of this group will be featured in
our website under the case study area.
Enjoy.

I wrote a quick example of how to do color studies in NeoTicker. Even
color studies is not native to NeoTicker. NeoTicker is flexible enough
for the user to create the same funcationality.
The attached example script is a simple 2-color version of color studies.
A generalization to multiple color is trivial.
The figure shows the application of this 2-color version to the subtraction
of price and moving average.
This example also illustrates that a workflow difference between RQ and
NeoTicker.
RQ depends a lot on formula. User enters the formula by keyboard.
NeoTicker can create abitrary complex setup by visually applying indicator
on
indicator, which is equivalent to formula, but relies on mouse clicks and
drag and drop.

I have browse through the chart in the file area.
Two points,
1. Why separate type of studies?! NT's indicators can be used
anywhere in the program ...
2. NeoTicker can create indicators that look like those color studies
without any problem at all. Just create indicators that returns
either 1 or setting itself.success = false will do. Of course the
plot style must be one of Dot, Up, or Down. NT can have multiple
color too.
Lawrence Chan
Louis,
I have posted an example in the files area. Color studies are the
six "rainbows" in the middle of the chart. These can be programmed to
do anything you want.
Derek
P.S. Just a suggestion, I would make this an unmoderated group so
people can more easily communicate with you. Tenlights (the makers of
RavenQuote) are going out of business, so people are going to try and
find new software.

quote sheet feature?
In RQ's website, only a s list of studies are shown after I click color
studies (no screenshot).
The listed studies are all supported by NeoTicker's charts.
2. No.
3. Fibonacci lines can be drawn using the support/resistance drawing tool in
NeoTicker.

1) Does your software support Color Studies ala RavenQuote or ribbons
ala MetaStock?
2) Can one program custom Alerts?
3) How does one draw Fibonacci Retracements?

The traffic on this group is very light
as most of the users tend to use the
support board on the tickquest website
or send us direct email.
When we established the NeoTicker group,
we are trying to set up an informal
discussion environment. Also, people
who like to use email rather than a
web-based board will find the group more
comfortable to work with.
Just some random thoughts.
